Not necessarily in that order, but some of my top favorites. Course roboquest is working it's way up on my list slowly too right now.
Tangledeep - strong 16-bit aesthetics and a great soundtrack. Lots of character build options and you can raise monster companions too.
Jupiter Hell - takes the aesthetics of 90's FPS classics and puts them in a roguelike. If you loved Doom or Quake back in their original forms, you'll feel right at home.
Caves of Qud - primitive tile graphics, but a huge and deep world to explore. Lots of character building options too.
All of the above are true roguelikes - no real-time elements, no meta-progress (although it's optionally available in some cases). If you do want action:
Spelunky 1 & 2 - well-balanced, fun-as-heck action-roguelike.
