whats your "ol reliable" build?
i have a few
chromatic swarm engie: chromatic buddies, family swarm, scrap snacks, element mastery. element chosen usually depends on the items i've gotten

infinite dakka elementalist: infused weapon, dynamic mantra, gun diet sticky bombs alongside something heavy (personal fav is a typhoon minigun with shotgun, explosions, and triple shot)

Get the torpedo rifle. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
meteo everything on bastion. then boost elemental works every time. :rq_stache:
I ended up calling it 'tis but a scratch' Commando with inner calm + healing rage + all the 'when you have no scratch damage...' and any weapon you like. you basically heal up any damage you take if you're fast/clever enough. for extra lunacy, stack a few 'when you get hit...' bonuses on there.
My second 'ol reliable build would be explosion commando with mini missiles and just explosions everywhere, like boosting the number of missiles on his ability and changing the shotgun to use explosions. then use an explosive gun and everything goes KABOOM! :rq_stache:

i never count on all 4 picks to make any build.

there are too many times you when you have to use your perk re-rolls to avoid a bad 3rd choice and then you get stuck with something less than ideal as your 4th

it's always 3 core picks and then 1 from whatever RNG picks are leftovers

scrap engineer: scrap pancakes, scrapsplosion, baby boom
with leftover pick options = cryo suit, pyro weapon, gun diet, or triple blaster
typical weapons = beluga cannon, voltaic cannnon, comet cannon, junk beam, or

razor launcher (if you roll both burning + blaze, the razor DoT effect makes it do absurd DPS, easily reaches 900 dps on the burger dummy)*this interaction doesn't seem to work anymore, blaze doesn't add anywhere near the same DPS it did a couple months ago

with this build you always want to try and pick up both +30% energy weapon damage and +30% heavy weapon damage if possible.
engineer is the only class that can get that huge +60% boost to base weapon damage from generic class upgrades.

rocket commando: rocket mag, fan of rocket, baby boom
with leftover pick options = mini-missles, hot potato, wild burster, or warning rocket
typical weapons = gorilla bolter or dual boomsticks, sometimes sling gun.
i tend to ditch torpedo rifle as soon as i get either act2 explosive gun.

speed recon: relentless pursuit, robo-fuel, happy-slice
with leftover picks = close combat, scanning protocol, cutlass, or top quality
typical weapons = dual vipers, or dual hellions ideally. ionic palms can also work well. usually dual rascals/uzis to start act1.
dual stingers is ok but the mag-size + reload-speed means it doesn't work as well for speed-recon vs. crit recon.
not a fan of dual sawed offs, boomsticks, or powerfists on recon

ninja recon: simple geometry, improved critical then any combination of 2 from these trueshot/favorite-weapon/robo-fuel/scanning-protocol
typical weapon = always shuriken or boomerang, ideally. kunai or dual stingers if not, bow as a distant 3rd, panchaku in a pinch, and if i take robo-fuel try to pick up tomahawk to build healing cells vs. bosses
any other weapon is not ninja and must be shunned immediately

by far the #1 easiest build in the game for lifelong FPS gamers?
mega crit hunter: supreme critical + simple geometry with +10 max focus common upgrades + any precision weapon with a critical ratio of 1.75x or better.
that's all you really need.
leftovers don't really matter, but if either shows up always take trueshot, prestige security, or shadowstrike over any other option.
favorite weapon is ok-ish and hunter's mark is viable, but really just works like a poor man's 'bowl'. shutdown is kind of... meh when you kill everything but bosses/goliaths in 1 hit anyway...

everything else is mostly extra buttons you won't need to push until you miss too many shots.

i only play that one when i'm feeling lazy or sometimes when i'm trying to warm up my aim for a different game

Infinite dakka explosive commando.

Hot potato + baby boom + micro-missiles + self control.
You pair it with the explosive weapon of your choice. Torpedo rifle with buckshot being the best choice, obviously.

It's just a comfy build.

Works too

just love no-reload build tbh, I don't like swapping weapons.

Why is buckshot so popular on these forums? I see it recommended a lot but when I use it it seems kind of underwhelming. Testing it against the healing bot right now I hit for 84 normally but 3x21 with buckshot activating. It's certainly useful against multiple enemies, I think it shoots out 7 shots. If they are each 25% damage then that's up to 175% damage on 20% of shots or a 15% damage boost which could be an average affix (compare to freewheel: 15% chance to get a free shot every shot), except that it seems to actually weaken the weapon by 25%, or -5% averaged out, against a single target so it's kinda terrible for bosses.

If my read on it is right then it's something like (averaged out): +15% damage on 3+ targets (assuming all 7 shots hit), +10% on 2 targets (6 shots hit), -5% on 1 target (3 shots hit).

To answer OP, 1.) crit javelin ranger with ricochet on crit, 2.) guardian with meteo grenades and elephant gun, 3.) summoning engineer with kangaroo gun and minion box
each pellet of buckshot can apply it's own element, crit and any effects of the weapon like marking or stunning. also, buckshot is borderline cheating on any weapon with homing properties, the 2 main showcases of this being the torpedo rifle, and the typhoon minigun
and at the end of the day, roboquest is a hoard shooter, so the more things you can hit at once, the better. (also, combining buckshot with the chance to shoot a crit laser will never not be funny, because yes, they can overlap
Typical Elementalist build is Dynamic Mantra (no CA, just Quick Loop), Infused Weapons (for Battle Mantra), and Unstable Armour (+both). And whatever else works; usually Inner Fire or Power Infusion.

Basically, infinite ammo + always be exploding with bonus armour. More Trinity or just more elemental damage is quite welcome.
