Roguelite or Grind-2-WinLite?
Lot of reviewers are saying this is like Gunfire Snoreborn. That might be a good thing for some but I am a big time fan of roguelikes and when games tout rogue anything I kind of expect them to play a certain way. Grinding until my eyes explode to beat a game doesn't come to mind when I want to play a roguelike.

Is this game legit roguelite in that if you are talented and understand the system, you can beat it or is it a straight up grind-2-winlite? I have 0 interest in the slow trickle of permanent progression that after 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, I have after tireless grinding the ability to beat the game. Crossing my fingers this is the game! xD Thanks!

Thanks for your interest ZeroAffex and sorry for the delayed answer, I'm guessing we're not on the same timezone.

As for the "persistent upgrades" in Roboquest, we don't have +stat upgrade.
We don't "simulate" difficulty with stats that you have to "fill" with persistent upgrades.

Upgrades are more oriented towards increasing player agency (increasing the amount of choice you have) and build diversity.

Some of the upgrades do make you stronger, but most of the time they just make you "different" or able to make "more choices".

You basically can get all the unlockables in about 1-2 hours honestly. Hell I got through the 4 levels within 3 hours and playing and went back in. Totally worth the money compared to Gunfire Reborn imo.

Was about to write this off and un-wishlist from the lack of responses (began to assume it was as I feared). Appreciate you helping me out Tall Giraffe. Am curious though.. When you say unlockables, can you elaborate as to specifically what is being unlocked? Normal stuff or more egregious non-rogue'ish stuff?

And this isn't really directed at you Giraffe just ranting that the unlocks that bothered me most with Gunfire and just felt super wrong for a game claiming 'rogue-anything' were ones that legit increased health, increased speed, damage, ect. I like unlocks don't get me wrong, love em! Stuff like artifacts/relics, weapons/abilities, characters; basically anything that can make runs fresh and less samey I am all for supporting.

Morally I just can't support a games that use grind-2-win as incentive to increase the basic core attributes you'd need to beat it in small increments by playing it over and over again. It's worse than paying-2-win because you can always recoup money, you can't recoup your time on earth LOL...

I mean 99% of P2W games were free so if you wanted to grind for 6 months or a year to beat it, you could and didn't lose a dime and of course if you didn't have that kind of time, you could just pony up.. (don't mistake me here either I am 1000% against p2w/freeium, just pointing out the eerily similarities the new 'normal' roguelites of recent have with mobile freemium trash mechanics)

It's insane to me at least that games like Neon Abyss and Gunfire get so much hype for such awful mechanics. Anyways.. End rant. lol Off the stool I go.

Disclaimer; I am a massive fan of robots and ofc roguelikes so my antcipations for this game are higher than normal so am a bit more passionate as to my concerns. Can't express the roller coaster of having found this game out of the blue, getting super excited then reading reviews praising it to be like Gunfire. Set me off a bit! Sorry to you and anyone else I may offended in my rant :>

Bottom line, sounds promising now and am feeling much more optimistic thanks to you Tall Giraffe! Hopefully the unlocks aren't crazy and it's a game I can get behind. My birthday is in a week so this would be a great gift if it works out! Have a good one. Cheers!

This game is LEGIT. I haven't seen anything but glowing impressions of the Early Access. The shooting is fast paced and the movement is buttery smooth. The upgrades are done through the base (similar to Rogue Legacy). Right now, this is my favorite rogue.

honestly i'm a big fan of games that make you grind for your rewards IF the game play is smooth and enjoyable, this is, i'm just sad that there is not more content for me to blast through like a rabbit on speed :steamsad:

Yeah, most of the upgrades are simply bringing what abilities, weapons etc available in the levels to the starting area so your not really improving as such, just given a chance to get what you want quicker.
