I don't really understand these type of games. Isn't it mostly all about the end game anyways? Playing runs without all unlocks seems to be just the prelude. What do I gain by hitting my head against a wall instead of breezing through full runs on Discovery until the real game starts?
This is also corroborated by people outright recommending to lower the difficulty until you have the unlocks. There isn't even an achievement for playing everything on Hard. While making it harder on yourself is kind of the point of a difficulty setting, it seems especially pointless and time-wasty in this game?
The point is unlocking guardian 4. After you beat the game on I think discovery, easy and standard you unlock the first of the guardian difficulties, and if you beat the last one it will give you an achievement.
In my eyes, the point is having fun blowing up tons of bull everywhere on the screen with the satisfying weapons, and if you're not having fun or are finding that too hard I would recommend playing on the difficulty which just about challenges you, and try it again until you become good enough to move on.
If *that* doesn't seem fun, maybe play a different game for a little bit before carrying on. I'm not saying quit it entirely, but it can be nice to have a break when you realise you aren't getting anywhere. Even though I have beaten Guardian 3, it happens to me all the time. I especially need to sit back and do something else after getting asswiped by an ill-timed Iris overcharge.
This is true, you will get the unlocks much faster on hard.
