I remember testing this out in Avernum: Escape From the Pit long time ago (and finding that at least using the editor disables achievements) but I haven't tested it in the present iteration.
It would be fairly simple test:
1) A profile that does not have the achievement "The Surface, At Last"
2) would create a new party,
3) then just speak to Anaximander,
4) try to use a cheat (say "forgiveme" or "teachmenow"),
5) and go to surface.
The achievement should pop up right away, but if it doesn't, then the cheats disable achievements. Though I find it possible that only some cheats might disable achievements, so maybe some of them (e.g. resetting boats) might be alright. But that would require additional testing. It would be simple though to do that by doing the steps 1-3, saving, and then testing each cheat code separately.
>.> Can I un gain the achievement to try with cheats?
Hmm, that's interesting (and disturbing). I'll try it with an alt account tonight.
