Anyone ever finish an Avernum game?
So many hours into Avernum 2 and it really feels like no end in sight. I think these games are an epic prank and don’t actually end. Can anyone prove me wrong? Wait, please don’t spoil it. I’ll give it another 100 hours before I give up.

Yes, all of them. years ago. Waiting for them to make a new game. One day it might actually happen.

The one that didn't feel like it would end for me was the first Avernum (Escape from the Pit). None of the games have entirely linear plots, but in AEftP I never knew how far along I was until I stumbled across a major plot point, haha.

Didn't Avadon 3 come out just last year?

All of Jeff's other work aside, this will be my second completion of E/A 3.

Trust me, many fans finish my games.

However, people don't finish games much anymore. Look at the achievement percentages for just about any game on Steam. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a huge hit, but the percentage of the people who have finished it is tiny.

I think it's funny how the desciption of spiderweb games always talks about the minimum gametime of 50 or 60 hours.

Well, I am playing on torment, which obviously takes longer than normal difficulty and I also want to explore absolutely everything. So my stats so far for finishing these games:

Avadon 1: 102 hours
Avadon 2: 87 hours (become much easier due to the somewhat overpowered tinkermage)
Avadon 3: 74 hours

Avernum EFtP: 159 hours (incl all achievements)
Avernum 2: CS: 137 hours (incl all achievements)

Happening often to me as well, that i wont finish the game, but its only happening with games that i know i will play again in the future and maybe in some other way.
I have 150+ hours as well on torment on both remakes, i started both games three times and always stopped playing with all quests done except the main three.
Now i will finish ruined world, go back to escape and souls to my last saves and finish it as well.
That will be the end of series for me and thanks to Spiderweb for those games. I missed them somehow back at 2k, because that was time of uo and cs for me.

I've completed all the Avernum games except Avernum 5. I got to the last area, but... No idea what happened. I lost interest and never went back to it. I did start it again a couple of years ago, but stalled about half-way. (I still have the game installed and the save file, so I might carry on). The emo-fest A5 and 6 were put me right off. "Everyone's miserable, no-one gets a happy ending". The latter Geneforge games were similar, but to a lesser degree.

The only Avernum I haven't finished was 5. I got very far a couple of times, but I just kept losing interest. The story was too linear and predictable, and the whole point of veiw from imperial soldiers just never felt right. 4 is still my favoirte.

finished only escape from the pit so far. But started playing all other games pretty much at the same time. (avernums/geneforge/avadon). Horrible horrible idea. I'll still finish them though. Geneforge is especially fun.

They do finish! I don't always get to the end (I think I'm just hours before the end in my previous Avernum 1 and Avernum 2 saves) but I did beat the preceding versions.

I discovered these games when the first Avernum remake came out and I completed that one and the sequel in about 50 hours each, though I have to admit I remember the end of the first one a lot better than the end of the second.

In fact, I loaded up Avernum 2 and even found my old savegame just to be sure I finished it. Sure enough, there is a save named ENDGAME but damned if I can remember what the hell happened. That's not a commentary on the quality of the ending so much as the deterioration of my memory.

I also finished Avadon 1, though I haven't been able to complete the second, each time I get interrupted by something. I'll admit to never completing a Geneforge game, despite getting 98% through the first and about halfway through the second and third.

Finished Avernum 1, 3, and 6, then EftP and CS remakes.

They're LONG games, and the endgame can get a little bit tedious, but well worth it.

I've finished Avernum 1-5, and new Avernum 1-2. Don't have times for them all, but according to Steam, 46 hours for Escape from the Pit and 51 hours for Crystal Souls. Been a while since I did the former, but the latter I explored most of the map, but kinda gave up towards the end and started focusing on the main objectives since I really didn't need more loot and gold.

I've never finished an Avernum game, but I loved the Exile series and finished them over and over. Little brother and I would spend weeks building worlds with Blades of Exile and trying to play each other's campaigns.

Was so proud as a kid when we sent off our money, and got the multiple floppy disks for Exile 2: Crystal Souls.
