You can add local players in the Main Menu after starting the game. Player 1 needs to move the character in the Main Menu (before pressing anything else!) using the method they want to use for playing. If player 1 wants to play using the keyboard, they need to move the character with the keyboard. If player 1 wants to use a controller, they need to move the character with the controller. If using a controller the game will ask if you want to use a controller: press A confirm.
After this player 2 needs to press F3 on the keyboard or press A two times on the controller, depending on what player 2 wants to use for playing.
Note that you shouldn't press anything else before adding players.
Please also note that Trine 4 doesn't support multiple keyboards + mouse set-ups, so one of the players has to be using a controller. I hope this helps!
It was possible in Trine 2 and 3, and I just assume that its the same in Trine 4?
Other possibility would be to use some sort of emulation program for keyboard-to-gamepad conversion (I don't know about those).

Is it possible to combine KB + Razer Orbweaver for Trine 4?

Selectable on the player selection screen
Edit: Trine 3 worked with Orbweaver out of the box
sorry for the bad English, I'm from Brazil
1st- download the xbox control emulator at x360ce.com
2nd- place the files inside the trine folder (E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Trine 4)
3rd- click on "xbox360ce_x64" , create the DLL that is requested and configure your control
4th- rename "xinput1_3" to "xinput1_4"
5th- enjoy
hitting F3 and clicking around has no effect for me at this screen, am I missing something?:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2049967016
but pressing all buttons on my Logitech controller at this screen also has no effect
I have x360ce detecting my controller and all the inputs have been reassigned properly, but Trine 4 doesn't actually detect or use my gamepad at all
Why is this game advertised as having "full controller support" if it only supports Xinput?
Sorry to hear this has been causing you so much trouble. :( Unfortunately Trine 4 doesn't support Logitech controllers and we haven't tested the game with emulators, so we can't promise it will work. You can still try to configure your controller via Steam's Big Picture Mode as that can make the game recognize even unsupported controllers. To do this, launch Steam in Big Picture Mode. It's the white button with two arrows next to your username in your Steam library. Then, go to Library > Trine 4 > Manage Game > Controller Configuration. Your controller needs to be connected to the PC when you do this.
Connection error. Fail in the connection unknown error.
Meh ... sad real sad.
