How to play local coop?
Control works both via keyboard+mouse and via gamepad, but somehow we can't join the second player via gamepad. Does local coop still work on 1 PC like that? Do you have to finish tutorials first?

Hi, I still having problems starting local coop game on PC with keyboard + mouse.
The F3 button is not working in the screen where I should add player 2

What to do?

You can add local players in the Main Menu after starting the game. Player 1 needs to move the character in the Main Menu (before pressing anything else!) using the method they want to use for playing. If player 1 wants to play using the keyboard, they need to move the character with the keyboard. If player 1 wants to use a controller, they need to move the character with the controller. If using a controller the game will ask if you want to use a controller: press A confirm.

After this player 2 needs to press F3 on the keyboard or press A two times on the controller, depending on what player 2 wants to use for playing.

Note that you shouldn't press anything else before adding players.

Please also note that Trine 4 doesn't support multiple keyboards + mouse set-ups, so one of the players has to be using a controller. I hope this helps!

Maybe I'm slow here, but is it correct that its not possible for 2 players to shared the same keyboard playing local coop?

It was possible in Trine 2 and 3, and I just assume that its the same in Trine 4?

Two players haven't been able to share a keyboard (and mouse) in previous Trines, unless you were willing to do some very complicated things with binding files (I don't recall ever writing any instructions about that). It was possible to play with two (or three) keyboards and mice, at least in Trine and Trine 2.

Other possibility would be to use some sort of emulation program for keyboard-to-gamepad conversion (I don't know about those).

Installed Trine 3 again and can see we used the Razer Orbweaver for second player.

Is it possible to combine KB + Razer Orbweaver for Trine 4?

I don't know how Razer Orbweaver works. Since Trine 3 doesn't support multiple keyboards and mice either, it should work pretty similarly with Trine 4. I don't know how you could have paired it with keyboard and still used plain keyboard and mouse for other player in Trine 3 though, unless you edited the bindings files.

It worked out of the box :D

I solved the problem
sorry for the bad English, I'm from Brazil

1st- download the xbox control emulator at x360ce.com

2nd- place the files inside the trine folder (E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Trine 4)

3rd- click on "xbox360ce_x64" , create the DLL that is requested and configure your control

4th- rename "xinput1_3" to "xinput1_4"

5th- enjoy

oh, I just saw this is listed in https://steamcommunity.com/app/690640/discussions/0/1608274347722160319/

but pressing all buttons on my Logitech controller at this screen also has no effect

okay I've spent the last hour working on this.

I have x360ce detecting my controller and all the inputs have been reassigned properly, but Trine 4 doesn't actually detect or use my gamepad at all

Why is this game advertised as having "full controller support" if it only supports Xinput?

Sorry to hear this has been causing you so much trouble. :( Unfortunately Trine 4 doesn't support Logitech controllers and we haven't tested the game with emulators, so we can't promise it will work. You can still try to configure your controller via Steam's Big Picture Mode as that can make the game recognize even unsupported controllers. To do this, launch Steam in Big Picture Mode. It's the white button with two arrows next to your username in your Steam library. Then, go to Library > Trine 4 > Manage Game > Controller Configuration. Your controller needs to be connected to the PC when you do this.

For PS4 the game uses Sony's backend (PlayStation Network, though that obviously includes much more than just peer-to-peer backend services). I don't know much about actually playing games on PS4, but you could try searching for problems with PS4 peer-to-peer connections in general, not related to Trine 4.
