Also, the boss is more dangerous and harder to damage when he's flying around, so when he does that, just focus on getting away from him. Blinking, rolling and dashing are all useful abilities for this. I usually switched to Pontius during this phase as I wasn't using him to do damage to the boss, so I could afford to let him take some hits.

You can damage the boss using Amadeus' Levitation Stomp and Horizontal Throw skills if you're fast enough. Not the easiest way to damage him, but it's pretty effective.
Had no luck getting a hit with the horizontal throw in co-op due to buddies interrupting my cast by inadvertently touching the ball.
Even just trying to slam him with a ball, other players frequently caused me to lose control of it in their efforts to dodge and position to attack.
Pretty unsatisfying conclusion to a fun co-op saga.
