Local + Online Coop combined?

I'm really looking forward to playing this game with my best buddy and his wife. We've had a lot of fun with all the previous games.
The thing is, they are living on the other side of the country, so it will be a while until we would be able to play this in 3-man local coop.

I've been wondering if it is possible that I join as an online player into their 2-man local coop.

Yeah, it's possible. Mixed local and online coop is supported.

I'm sorry if I necro this but I have kind of the same dilemna. Only this time we're 4. So is it possible to be 2 groups of 2 local players joining eachother via online?

I've been checking on the game and I can't see which option would allow me that.

It should be possible. One of you just needs to host a game and other one join it. Then add local players on both sides as you would in plain local co-op.

Thanks I just figured it out.

Yes for anyone who wonders how it works : Host Friends -> Invite -> both players should use the *Start* button of the controller like in local (the *Start* symbol isn't displayed anymore but still works).

Btw I could not thank you enough for returning to your roots guys, 3 was a big let down gameplay speaking but you listened to the community and I'm more than glad to buy it and introduce it to my friends. Also big thanks to not make it an EGS exclusive.
