Free floating boxes

If you create two boxes, and connect them with both a fairy rope and a normal rope, the physics will allow them to just float anywhere. They tend to drift off and are prone to glitches, but if you're stuck somewhere and need to summon a rope anchor out of nowhere, totally works!

What secret areas is it needed to reach? Like places beyond the chest/mail/exp secrets? I've 100% the SP game, and basically all of the MP unlim and classic version in bits and pieces (joining games), and never once needed to use this trick to solve a puzzle or reach an area.

In the room where where you first need to use 2 dream shield, the secret area in the middle is very high, no plateform, how would you reach it without the free floating box trick ?

Once you unlock Pontius' magnetic dream shield it becomes trivial to reach anywhere.

True, but it feels like cheating ^^
Having 3 boxes in the early levels feels like cheating as well.

you can also fairy rope a box (box 2), to box 1 on the ground, and grapple up to it. You can then fairy another box (box 3), attached to box 2 to and grapple to that one, to get even higher.

Method is not needed to reach high places (and it is kind of a bug), but hey, what ever works can be used! :D

The box-balloon that I created was way too slow to my liking.

I'm curious on other way to reach the area above where you unlock the double dream shield. There s no plateform, nothing to attach a rope to.

I'm pretty sure that's actually one of the few places where the fairy rope and floating object trick is necessary, getting up there in other ways would be rather tricky. It can be done using the Magnetic Dream Shield and conjured objects if you come back a little bit later in the game, though.

Yup, you need indeed use fairy rope + two boxes, but the other one can be on the floor, no need for it to float around. Bit of a bad wording from my side as I was referring to the trick OP posted and not to a box connected to a fairy rope in general. :)
