Sorry, let me clarify: I've validated the files, and uninstalled and reinstalled. I've done both, many, many times.
VEGAS does actually have an official solution. It's super hacky, and was super hard to find (please don't remove as spam, this is the devs' official website): https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/article/how-to-solve-installation-errors-for-steam-versions--538/
Basically, it's six main steps:
1. Uninstall VEGAS through Steam
2. Uninstall VEGAS through Apps & Features (Windows' settings menu)
3. Restart
4. Download and "install"
5. Restart
6. "Launch" the application through Steam
I assume it's dealing with some sort of bug in either Windows, VEGAS, or both with overwriting pre-existing registry entries. Registry entries that keep the serial key?
What bugs me to no end is I was actually able to get it working on my Windows laptop (following the six main steps above), which is not ideal. I'd like to get it working on my desktop. But for the life of me, I can't figure out what's different between the two installations. I've looked at the RegEdit on the laptop and desktop, and I can't piece it together.
And there's nothing in %AppData%/ under MAGIX or Sony or Vegas that have any hint to what went wrong.
TL;DR: Still stuck.
After the uninstall in steps 1 and 2, grab a program like Recuva ( https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva I use the free Version) and scrub your registry before doing the restart.
Make sure all errors are cleared (meaning, re-run recuva until there are no more reported errors)
After the restart use the Steam Store to reinstall Vegas.
Then try the program again after the install.
Apologizes!
But it's really bad that I have to do with such magic tricks here, as if I had to be an wizard with my russian magic mice ...
It's even more complex than it used to be with crаck millions of years ago (which was also quite complex process)
Delete Vegas Pro - Steam Powered, ignore error message on start - and chill, without russian magic mice
Same problem and this was the fix. Thank you!
Absolute G making this work and being so close to the top of googles results. Look no further than this.
