generals, how to switch?

Is there a way to switch and pick the generals going into battle and how many you can send? Seems like every time is the same 4 generals go into battle and 2 other are resting, need to mix it up, is that possible?

Click on their portraits on the deployment screen, then you can either "clear" them to remove them from the current island, or switch him with another captain.

If you like using hotkeys, number keys 1-4 correspond to the top-down order of your unit generals on the deploy screen.
