Despite winning every battle and having 3 or 4 commanders I keep getting this game over message mid campaign. What's the cause of this ??

did the map wave engulf you while you had no accessible islands to go to next turn?

the game is similar to FTL in that regard.

you have to make certain decisions of sometime skipping islands so that you dont get overran

from the left side of map there is a constant tide moving to the rigth and there is a clear line from up to down on the map that shows where the current viking tide is on also you can see on smaller grey lines what islands will be overrun in the next turn the water details turn to skulls and other evil symbols on the left side of the tide while normal nice wave icons on the rigth side of map
