They got a fixed amount of money for it. There is no motivation for them to work on it anymore.
I've got arcade control panel with spinner that game would be a perfect fit. No spinner = ♥♥♥♥ this game!
I've been wanting to pick one up lately after getting a proper trackball.

So that means no VR? I couldn't be more disappointed. I guess I'll just stick to playing the original Tempest in my game room.
Ivan "Giles" Zorzin writes about Spinner in in the PS4 and the PC version and event wants to make a video tutorial how to make your own high quality spinner.
...which he demonstrates here on Tempest 4000 on the Windows 10 version and tells us: "...it's working with a trackball mouse.."

...and finally you can See Jeff "Yak" Minter himself (found in this tweet) playing Tempest 4000:

So they developed Tempest 4000 with spinner support and seemed to enjoy it pretty much.
For me, Tempest 4000 is a loveless product of a dispute between a desperate and scatterbrained developer and a money-hungry company that exploits old names and brand rights. You can tell from the game that the developer was forced to prefer the things that bring in money instead of having him create one of his artworks.
What now? I would now like to let the manufacturer know my opinion. Does anyone have a good contact address at Atari SA?
Some more intersting stuff:
Spider-Dan wrote another very good review[www.yakyak.org] for Tempest 4000 including some hints how to play with the keyboard.
Jeff "Yak" Minter summarizes what has happened between him and Atari.[www.yakyak.org]
And some more infos about Atari SA[www.theregister.co.uk], their dispute with Jeff Minter[reverttosaved.com] and the upcoming Atari VCS[www.bleedingcool.com]. *sigh*
Include spinner support and it’s an insta-buy. Without it, no thank you.
What the yak happened?
or enable Big Picture Mode and remap the buttons of your controller from there.
We, young ones, never witnessed arcade tempest other than in compilations( let alone spinner controller
though i played very old Pong console with something spinning...
It's not too late MAME + BYOAC = Arcade Bliss!
Is it just me or there doesn't seem to be inertia in that version? I'd love to play THAT T4K, not this soaked-in-molasses thing currently on Steam. I had to refund because I just couldn't tolerate the lag.
