Comparison to TxK?
I am an old gamer who remembers the original Tempest and the sublime Tempest 2000 on the Jag. I recently dug out my Vita and started playing TxK again, how does this version compare to that? Seeing the rather mixed reviews here makes me nervous about buying it.

It's worse than that one. The speed seems really off and there are some graphical effects that do make it hard to see. Also no resolution options and doesnt work properly on 144hz monitors or ultrawide monitors. I would stick with TXK

It's like TxK but the camera is further back making the web smaller, it's definitely faster and harder, it's got more of a Tempest 3000 arcade vibe compared to the more mellow TxK.
I love TxK and so far I'm liking 4000, but I hope they'll address some issues in the near future.
For $20 you really can't go wrong if you like the genre and worst case, get it refunded.

Thanks. I don't suppose this game has the chilled out reggae sections from T2K does it? I loved those.

If you play alot of TxK then due to the day one release issues it may not be worth it yet. The controls on the bonus stages are reversed in T4K Vs TxK . utterly baffling.... like it's not been tested. The poor camera position according ot the readme file can be changed in pause plus left Analogue but it doesn't work so clearly its in there somewhere but its defaulted to Max zoom out and the modifier isnt working.

I am not a stranger to Jeff's baffling controls, one of the first games I ever bought was his version of Centipede for the ZX81, and I realised he musy be left handed as the controls were the wrong way around from the arcade game, it was awful to play!

The extra lives are at every 100,000- instead of every 80,000 like TxK. There is a Beauty powerup which makes you invincible for a few seconds & doubles points for whatever you kill while it lasts.
T4000 does feel a bit more challenging than TxK, also.
I bought it on both PC & PS4. On the PS4 one I had cleared one of the rings bonus stages- same music as T2000, so I'm sure the path bonus stage with the reggae should be there (it is in TxK, only with different BGM). If you see both kinds of bonus stage in one game, you can get the Both Worlds achievement.

Knowing the game speed is tied to the refresh rate, I made sure to use RivaTuner Statistics Server to cap it at 60 FPS. Real important with variable refresh monitors that have a high maximum like 144.
