Game won't even start [SOLVED]
The screen goes black for about a second and then back to the desktop. I tried uninstalling Tempest 4000 and reinstalling it and it made no difference. Also tried both options on that "start in Windows 10" dialogue box that pops up, no difference. I'm using Windows 10 and my system is perfectly capable of running this game as far as I'm aware, but it won't even start. After waiting months for this game this is infuriating.

Same here. I had to force it to use integrated graphics in order to get it to start :-\ I am sure it will be patched.

Just tried that and it starts now, but the powerups just show as spots of light on the walls instead of actual objects. Everything else seems okay, but I keep missing those damn powerups lol. In case the developers are reading this I'm using an Acer laptop with an Intel i5 and Nvidia GTX 950M. Not exactly a beast rig but still in excess of the potato level minimum specs given in the readme file.

Could this be caused by the lack of redistributables in the installation directory?

According to readme.txt:
Your C:\Windows\System32 folder should contain a file named XAudio2_7.dll ( or latest version ) in case it's missing installing the June 2010 DirectX Redistributable should install it ( this should happen automatically via Steam installation ).

When I started the game this procedure did not occur as they aren't included. Fortunately I have these files from previous game installations.

Just checked, and I have that dll. Weird.

Tried that and it works! Thankyou so much!

I just saw someone on YakYak post about severe slowdown when lots of chaos is happening. I can't reply there because the site won't allow my email address, so I'm temporarily hijacking my own thread because you post there and maybe you can forward this information to them. http://www.yakyak.org/viewtopic.php?p=1683264#p1683264

I had the same problem, and it was caused by the game defaulting to the Windows 7/8 version when I opened it from the Steam client. I fixed it by creating a desktop shortcut the the .exe in the Win 10 folder. Now it's smooth as butter apart from some choppiness on the transition to the bonus stage.
