Tempest 4000
Tempest 4000 and a SpinTrak rotary controller is pure gaming HEAVEN !
I've been able to enable the use of a SpinTrak rotary controller that I've built myself and through some tinkering and trial and error I've been able to get the claw speed as fast as I like AND as responsive as I like, The spinner feels very connected to the claw and very intuitive to use, almost immediately you forget all about the controller and you become part of the game and let me tell you a spinner can really make all the difference on whether or not this is a fun game to play because being able to move the claw where you want it AND when you want it with no effort at all makes this game my all time favorite even dethroning my previous long-time favorite game Tempest 2000 on the jag !!!

With a properly working rotary controller like a SpinTrak I can honestly say THIS IS ONE GREAT GAME and I'll be playing for years to come !

Have to say - I'm scatching my head in a big way.

It's been 20 years since I used VB6, but I don't recall it having a Hex editor built it. But maybe you were editing resource files? So I checked all the resource files. I found nothing that contained the string "mouse".

But maybe it is a command line option? I saw in the other spinner thread that you said you modded the EXE. So, I opened Tempest4000.exe in FlexHex and could only find one reference to the string "mouse" and that was in a super-wierd block of text at #00C7792 - it appears to be some kind of in-game text.

No idea what you've done. Further explanation?

I'm sorry it wasn't "6" It was "2016"...

There is no in-game mention of "mouse" anywhere in the game?

But I've said all I can say about it, I've been advised that I shouldn't talk about it...

Since when is using a spinner a capital offense? The only reason to buy this game on a PC is for spinner (mouse) support. And the hope of VR.
When I can use a spinner I will buy this game.

The SpinTrak rotary controller is nearly $70, and I would have to make some do-it-yourself contraption to house it. That's too much trouble for me. I'll just hope for an update that enables native mouse/trackball support. I'm in no hurry to buy this game.
How are you controlling the ship during the bonus screens?

I really wish I had more programming skills. I'm moderately proficient with C#, but that's about my limit. Sounds like if I knew what I was doing, I could hack in Steam VR support. Unfortunately, I have no where near the needed skills for that.
I took the small "point of view hat" thumb controller from a sidewinder joystick, Cut it down to only what was needed and mounted to my spinner box...

Wow that's some true detication right there. I'm impressed. :) I'm still deciding if I wanna go to the trouble to pick up a Jaguar. That and the Turbografx16 are pretty much the only retro sytems that I still don't have.

He shouldn't have to do this. Atari should make it so that the game supports spinners natively.

Atari should, yes. But these things technically cost money, and modern Atari would rather keep the money to themselved and re-invest as little as possible into their games unfortunately.
