Crashing to desktop on Mission 13: I've got the power
So I picked up JC1 and 2 yesterday on sale at Greenman Gaming and have been playing through JC1. I'm on "I've Got the Power" where you have to blow up a powerplant. I've tried this a few different ways and all of them led to crashes

I picked up a Helo from riojas outpost 4, flew it to the mission area and started raining rockets on everything. The game's wonky autoaim makes hitting the actual objective hard since it keeps snapping your targetting all over the place but I finally was able to blow up the 3 targets. Immediately after the 3rd one blew up, crashed to desktop. Other attempts with the helo caused crashes at various points whenever I got near the objective, just circling around the targets caused me to crash to desktop repeatedly.

Going on the ground didn't work any better. Not only was it stupidly difficult to drive there due to the volume of enemies, but once I got there and planted explosives on the targets I crashed again. Attempting that again, I was able to plant the explosives without crashing but then detonating them did nothing. Despite being placed on the markers the C4 blew up and the targets remained standing. And then I crashed again.

Has anyone successfully completed this mission on the PC? If so how did you do it?

Comp specs if anyone cares

i5 3750k
8 gb RAM
GTX 670 with the newest drivers

Clearly I should have no issues running a game from 2006.

Damn, I wish someone would have relpied. I have the same problem. The first time I played this mission, I got through the power plant on foot. Then got stuck trying to escape the nuclear plant after I blew that up, so I started over. Now everytime I try to blow up the power plant it crashes me to windows too.

I'm about to start playing this game and I'm worried because I have the same specs as the OP.

I never found a fix and just gave up on the game. Seems to be a game breaking bug.

As of Yesterday I actually have passed this mission with no technical problems (I died a few times). I don't know if this would help any of you guys but what I did is disable the steam overlay because when I used that during the start of the game and I was checking my friends messages, then the game would take me to the desktop and after a few seconds it would say "Just Cause.exe has stopped working".

I have the same problem with it crashing. After I blow up the first 3 targets it says to go across the island to the next checkpoint. Once I get there the games crashes. Shame because I've enjoyed playing it.

I managed to pass 13 without crashing. You have to do it by foot! Doing it all by air is much easier, but the computer don't like that. I took the chopper in and blew up a tower. Then I crashed and died so I hit 'continue' and did a bit more on foot and manage to blow up all the 3 targets, although there was a red arrow over one despite the round building blown up. Keep hitting continue because there is an automatic save point once all 3 are gone. Then drive on over to the other side of the island. When you continue they give you very little life back so try and hop from one car to another. It took many attemps to go down the road. There is another automatic save point just before you get to the bridge. When you press 'continue' you don't have to do the road trip again.

Again you have very little life and you got to climb up the building and place another bomb. The hardest part is getting out. There is a bike by the stairs, so I zooomed off the cliff. Once I landed (smashed my pelvis) I THEN set the bomb off. Then it gives you something like 40 seconds to get off the island. Job done!

For me, turning off Steam Overlay did the trick. Hope it works for you!

Steam overlay made no difference for me - I think something gets unhappy when you spam rockets at the buildings - perhaps the game doesn't know what to do when rockets interact with the falling rubble.
Going on foot and taking down the buildings via individual explosions worked just fine here!

Hi everybody!
It's 2021 and I bought the game on the steam summer sale

I had the same problem, and my games crashes 2 seconds after the alarm on the 3 objects starts as soon as i'm near enough with my jet or chopper, so i shot from about 650m distance to avoid the alarm

everything worked and now i'm happy to continue this tour of Guns 'n' Rockets

I had CTDs like hell with this mission as well. In the end, I managed to beat it with flying a Jackson Z-19 Skreemer from the 4th Rioja base at high altitude to the power plants, base jumped out of the chopper, and placing C4 with detonator at the three locations. Only one CTD with this method on foot. The second try was successful.

Dumb as ♥♥♥♥, I wasted all my C4 with detonator at these normal power plants, ran the whole way to the nuclear power plant on foot, had a tricky fight with the chopper waiting there, and blew this nuclear power plant with C4 without a detonator. I even survived the run with the motorbike down to the motorboat, although I expected to die twice from heavy falls with my low health bar, but Rico is a hard-bitten rubber ball.

As of 7/6/2022, the issue is still here :( Anyone found a fix?
Apparently, these crashes have to do with multiple rockets spawning because of SAMs shooting at your helicopter. The game engine just can't handle too much of these objects and crashes.

So, yeah, it's better off doing it on foot or destroying SAMs first, then power plants.

I will have to try.

This happens to me after the Eidos logo goes away.

I don't believe this is the case, considering the amount of rockets that can be shot at you in the mission prior to this one, "Love Is In The Air". The crash is unpredictable, and can happen or not happen even when doing the same thing repeatedly.
