to get the quest: in the first interaction with olivia answer here proudily: i think is i defend you with my life or something like that
second: teach her how to fight
after that visit her right away but dont search her room
visit her again after training
DONT rush to fight onar and ruffin , just waste your time(training etc), THAT will make them hire assassins(grace and glory)
after some time there will vbe a text that olivi want to talk to you with urgency
you get the quest to find the assassins
Btw, You mentioned not rushing to fight Onar and Ruffin, but their fight is a major event that happens after running out of time. I can't really "rush to fight them" can I? Or is there some way to trigger the fight early? Maybe I'm missing a prerequisite or something...
I think you need to answear 'Yes" when Anna asks if you trust Olivia, because the only time I said "Yes" did Grace and Glory show up. And they only appeared after the Siege.
No, its really just depends on state of fighting against Onar Mercs. Nothing to do with investigating her room or telling Anna that you trust Olivia.
In my opinion most reliable way to trigger this quest is to post pone capturing second farm (Anna farm) until you got the quest. So beat Suicide Squad chapter without capturing second rebel farm (you can capture first farm and beat Onar mercs until Rene in full strength, this is not a big deal). After start of the next chapter trigger all scenes with Olivia and wait for some time until you get a message that she wants to see you. After that she's gonna give you a quest to kill Grace and Gory.
I was able to trigger it even after capturing second farm, but its better to be safe than sorry.
Ah, that might work. I tried not capturing any farms and just getting Rennes strength up, but it lead to the town getting overrun. Hopefully just taking Southfarm will still let me progress the chapter. Thanks for the tip!
So I did this on my most recent run, saving the second farm until Olivia called me for the quest (which didn't happen) and wiping out Onar Mercs after Onar's attack on the castle, and I did not get the event to proc. I'm going to try a high virtue run next, but at this point, I'm willing to bet that I've done something to bug my game. From how everyone talks about G&G it shouldn't be this hard to trigger.
There seems to be something buggy with the Grace and Glory quest for me as well. I have tried triggering it on 2 different HWR runs during Chapter 5 in Rennes following the tips in this thread and couldn't get it to start. Are other folks able to trigger this quest during their HWR run?
- Despite saying to Olivia a comment criticizing cowardly knights when I first talked to her (instead of saying I will defend you)
- In Chapter 4, I initially thought I had to do everything in that chapter (didn't realize many of these things could be done in Chapter 5).
- I fought a few mercenaries, scouted the three farms, raided the southern farm (Suicide Squad), then armed the militia with All the Queen's Men, then raided Olivier's farm killing the Landsknecht and meeting Anna, then retrieved the medallion for Anna (defeating the Warden), I did tell Anna that "no" i did not trust Olivia, then set up the contract for Anna with Dupont, and then I fought mercenaries until the strength was down to 1. All in Chapter 4.
- So at this point the only things I had not done were the Warehouse raid and finishing the final mercenary.
- I progressed to Chapter 5. Talked to Olivia twice, searched her room, went on a date, and then trained. And fairly early on (only 1/4 to 1/3 of the time had progressed), received the Grace and Glory quest.
In any case, I just wanted to point out that some dialogue choices (I will defend you vs ridiculing cowardly knights, whether or not you trust Olivia), searching the room or not, the mercenary strength, and whether you have raided the Southern and Olivier's farm, don't seem to have much of an impact on the Grace & Glory quest (if you compare my experience with those who have posted above).
The code section to trigger Grace and Glory quest is:

So it looks like we need to complete Olivia's date quest (wine_and_dine) in Chapter 5 and let some time pass to trigger the Grace and Glory quest.
I then checked my save file to see what the value for the wine_and_dine quest is and the online editor says: 102
So I'm wondering if this is a bug or did I do something weird on the date event that resulted in a value of 102 instead of 101.
Anyway, I edited my save file's wine_and_dine value to 101 and reloaded the game and Grace and Glory quest triggered right away and I was able to complete it, finish Chapter V and select Ending 1.
Dev, do you have any insight on this issue?
I tried looking at the files myself a couple days back and saw the same lines of code you mentioned. I wasn't able to find the code that shows what I need to do to set the value of wine_and_dine, I think that must be what's tripping me up. If only I could find what in the code changes that variable, or marks it completed or whatever.
Speaking of which, do you know what the ".completed" at the end of wine_and_dine.completed means? Is it just part of the variable name or is it like a, uh, flag or something? Sorry, my coding knowledge is very barebones.
My coding knowledge is also at novice level.
I think this a completion flag code referencing the completion value in the save file. I checked the value of wine_and_dine in my save file (where I just finished Olivia's date event) via a online RenPy save file editor and the value was 102.
The Olivia date quest was very straight forward and I don't remember there being any major choices in that event. So it's really puzzling that I got a 102 completion code instead of the 101 required to trigger Grace and Glory.
