Should I rotate weapons between characters ?
Noob to saga games, (I played 3 like years ago I can´t remember a thing),
so as topic, should I swap weapons around between chars so they learn different weapons ?
And should I grind for upgrade materials at the mines?
This game it´s fun..but very confusing.

As you play through the story, you really shouldn't need to do much in the way of grinding to get enough upgrade materials. Let it come as it comes, enemies scale with you.

As for weapon-swapping ... yes. Sort of. In the Retinue menu, one of the submenu is for "Roles." As you level up your primary weapon, you will unlock a total of five "Role" slots (I believe this occurs when your first weapon or incantation level reaches 35). Learning more than 1 or 2 roles requires branching out and learning techniques (and sometimes having to get to Rank I, even Rank II) for different weapons.

If "Required techs" is empty, that means the role is unique to a character. But as you can see, there are some important character upgrades here, and these are things you can *only* get with roles ... no amount of grinding or finding good equipment can make up for good roles. If you intend to, say, take on the final boss in his true form, you will fail miserably if you don't learn good roles.

Roles learned carry through all NG+ save files as well, so ... may as well start now? My recommendation though would be to take any character's main weapon to 35 before branching out to try other weapons, or you will get yourself into trouble.

Allllso, in case you're wondering: building a mix of physical atk and magic atk is not really feasible, but there are some very important roles that require this work. The most important one is "Barrier," which requires Shelter (Spear) Rank I, as well as Armor Blessing (Aes Magic) Rank I. All characters should learn this!
