Direct3D: Unable to create device. Try changing resolution of colour depth? Help!?

Hi, I've just bought this game and whenever I attempt to run it, the game crashes and a popup that says "Direct3D: Unable to create device. Try changing resolution of colour depth" appears, regardless of what resolution I try to run the game at. Does anyone else have this problem? What can I do to fix it?
My specs are:

Windows Home Premium 64bit
i5 460M
ATI Radeon HD 5470
4gb RAM
And my screen is 1080p, if it matters.

I found a solution to my problem! Hitman 2 doesn't support widescreen, or something along those lines, and in order for the game to work, I had to edit the 'hitman2.ini' file.

For anyone that encounters the same issue that I did, take a look at this site [www.wsgf.org]

Yes, it's works, but after that operation Hitman moves slowly.
My resolution 1920x1200.

Change line 'DrawDll RenderD3D.dll' to 'DrawDll RenderOpenGL.dll' (without the quotes)
Works great for me now.

What are your specs mar480? Try and launch the game in windowed, and if it works, change it to full screen in the game - and make sure drivers are up to date etc etc.

The only thing that worked for me is not changing anything after the game install. Reverify the game files and try launching :/ nothing works if I mess with the ini file at all. I'm stuck with running it at only the supported default resolutions in full screen mode.

You have to run in Open GL mode, web search how by editing ini file
