Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin

How Does A.I. Work?
Background:
My first game into the series was the World of Assassination games and I've been in love with them. I play on Xbox and I have over 300 hours so far put in with more to go. I know the inner working of everything for that game and it feels so good being able to maneuver around the map and be able to do fancy kills.

Now I understand old game is old and many things in it will be clunkier and less refined by comparison. I've been really going at it trying my damndest to find out which outfits can work, how best to make my way around the large landscapes, but one thing bugs me. I cannot figure out the A.I. at all. I get that if I dress up I cannot run, but it seems that I sometimes can't walk either. But then other times they don't seem to care if I do. I look at the detection meter to see if maybe it's telling me and I'm not seeing it but it's going all over the place.

Am I stupid and just missing something? Are guard outfits just way weaker in this game? Is it a case where "old game is jank"? I plan on going all the way from 2 through Absolution (Xbox marketplace doesn't sell Codename 47) but stuff like this makes it less fun. If the problem is me I will happily take the L.

If people are curious, I'm on mission 3 right now and setting up the second car bomb just cannot be done is where I stand

The detection meter is actually fine-tuned for individual missions. From what I gathered it's based on "plausibility" of you fitting in, i.e. how much you resemble the locals and how much is hidden by the disguise. Some later levels have outfits with full face masks which let you run freely. Try to base your expectations on what you would "realistically" get away with.

As for the car bomb, are you using the anaesthetic correctly? Holding the button makes the victims stay unconscious for longer and you should have no problem using the limo driver outfit. It's actually a throwback to one of the first Codename 47 missions which I still recommend you to play, it might not be on XBox but making one exception for PC is fine.
