Hidden Valley is still the buggiest mission after 15 years...
I played Hidden Valley recently. And damn this level brings back bad memories. Back in 2004 I played this mission only to almost quit from me furusturated to hell. And now 2017 I play this mission again and I finally beat it... only professional on pro difficultly. And I just want to stop playing the game.

This level is so bad... like the glitch still occurs everytime and also when I take the truck route everyone frigging sees me.. but I watch others do it and they get by swiftly.

I cannot believe there is no fix for this... this mission is bad, this is the only time I felt that a level from a game should be removed from the game.

I wouldn't call it buggy, but yeah, that level is unfairly hard. You have to do a list of very specific things to get SA rating. And all thoes things required not only the know how but also the skill to pull off.

The reason why I say the level is buggy because the truck hits the same guy always... Pisses me the hell off. And the level is complete rng too. The guards up top have random patrols everytime so it's crazy impossible to go from the top unless rng was in your favor.

Funny thing is... At the gates wasn't even that hard compared to hidden valley. The AI in at the gates is soooo easy to bait and sedate them. And not to mention that if they see you and they look for your id... You can actually swiftly hide and they'll ignore you. And not to mention that the guard's patrols are the same every time so it's easy to get around them.

edited: Just finished Shogun Showdown on Pro/SA.... that was disgustingly easy. I think there is something wrong with the japan AI overall.

The level IS bugged, even on console. Besides running over the guy at random times, the trucks also stop moving when they shouldn't.

Honestly here is the best way to get silent assman on this mission.

Go to the truck with the crossbow beside it. Sedate the guard and grab his clothes. Once disguised. Run through and have the anethetic good to go. After having it out keep running until a guard sees you. When he sees you... Quickly sedate him and keep going. If you sedate right you shouldnt get any close encounters thus getting the assman rating.
You don't need desguises for this mission, they won't do you any good. I got a close encounter because the truck stopped when it shouldn't and a guard saw me.

you use the disguise so you can freely walk on top without any snipers shooting at you. And sedating every guard quickly will pretty much stop them from getting a close encounter thus no guards and snipers shooting at you.

Do you bring the crossbow?

I didn't need it, I just needed a disguise and the sedative. Crossbow is useless to me at the moment.
Fair enough.

The player should have to be ONLINE to earn achievements for getting Silent Assassin especially on this level to prevent cheating. The temptation to use the invisibility cheat is just too high here.

I broke a keyboard on my Windows 2000 back in the day 'cause of this mission, Silent Assassin-Professional, still haunts me to this day...

The bug I keep running into is the truck stops moving. If the trucks moved normally, I can actually complete this mission in fairly short order, but semi-regularly, the trucks will just stop at a checkpoint and never move.

I eventually figured out that even if a guard sees you and asks for your ID, if you run away far and fast enough, they won't care and even if they shoot at you, you can still get one close encounter without breaking Silent Assassin.

So my strategy now is to run around a corner and knock out an enemy for a disguise, which is useless against guys on foot but still useful against snipers, climb into the truck that comes out which will take me about halfway before the guard checkpoint, and then get out. If I get seen by the people near the checkpoint, I just try and run away as quickly as possible and I'll usually be able to get away.

The only people that cause me a bit of grief and give me that one close encounter are the enemies patrolling afterwards, but if I'm quick and weave around the columns enough, I can run around them and into a door where I can hide, then climb up a ladder to my destination.

Buggy mission, and easily the worst in the entire series, but that's what I found that was relatively reliable when it came to getting Silent Assassin on Pro.

aside from the truck when the level starts, ive never seen a truck on this level move. my strategy was to just weave through the tunnel, baiting guards into checking my id then killing them with the mp5sd. was playing on professional difficulty but not going for silent assassin rank
