Locked out of town

I had no idea about the quests of the cook. Saw someone posted a small guide after I had the issue. There was no hint to having to get some sort of quest to open the city gates. I got a quest to get pelts and the like from the blacksmith. It was night so I figured the doors were closed becasue of that, so I jumped the fence from the guard towers around the town. So does that mean I am now stuck for good outside? Why in their right mind would they program a game to prevent you from getting inside if you somehow made it outside? Is there not a way around this? This sucks.

Just start over. I doubt you put much time into it. Also, I was able to jump on the roof of the alchemy house prior to unlocking it. There will be issues and they will get to it.

To give an update, someone did a post of a small guide. It explains that you have to complete a few quests before the gates open. I would direct anyone to that post if you get here. I ended up creating a new character with the same store and opened the gates with that character and then they were open for the original one. Didn't need to die either.
