Surviving the Aftermath

The irony of the Eternal Winter scenario.
So the idea of having to play under the effects of a permanent environment disaster may seem daunting to some people... but I've found that it's actually not NEARLY as bad as you might think.

Because you're under the effects of a permanent winter storm hazard, the game is actually a lot more consistent. You don't have to deal with OTHER environmental hazards like heatwaves or toxic storms, so you only have to prepare for the cold, which as long as you build enough burners and collect enough wood to keep them fueled, isn't actually all that difficult. You don't have to worry about a sudden heat wave causing your entire colony to dehydrate because you didn't build 3x as many wells as you needed, or a poisonous cloud of death completely overwhelming your medical tents. And while a lot of technology (like standard open-field farming) is barred to you, you get to just skip over these banned technologies, letting you zip up the tech tree to the advanced ones like greenhouses a lot quicker. Sure, you can't replant trees, so your supply of wood is technically finite, but there's easily enough on the map to get you through, even with the need to keep the burners fed (until you upgrade to radiators instead).

I dunno if I'd say it's EASIER than the base game, but it's not nearly the uber-challenge it was probably intended to be. I'm going for the 100-day achievement at the moment, and it's frankly pretty smooth sailing.

At 200% difficulty it was pretty rough going early & mid game but things stabilized late game. Still, I've never lost so many solar panels, turbines, mechanic shops & electronic factories to spontaneous combination in aby previous playthrough.
Yep, the power generators liked to zap each other quite frequently. About a quarter of my components went to repairs.

I am running out of wood though. No way to replenish it.
