How do guards & towers work?
Hey all, really enjoying the game....getting close to the end....one thing I don't understand is when there are rodents or animals attacking....I can't figure out how to arm my colonists and send them to a specific location.

I know I can send my specialists to attack. That part I got.

I also know if I'm lucky enough to have a tower built where I am getting attacked, that tower will attack, even without colonists in the tower (weird)...and if I add colonists to the tower, they'll fight.

Is the short, have towers everywhere on the perimeter? Going to be a lot of towers....

1st question: How old are you ???
2nd Question: have you ever played games like this before ??
3rd: You do not have to have a tower everywhere.. Common sense should take over..

Ok so to try to be helpful and not a jerk…

1) It seems like guards will automatically have a crossbow but if better weapons are available I believe they will go over to storage and equip the best they can.

2) the guards should always have a blue symbol above them so if you click them or click an drag over them you should then be able to right click and direct them to move somewhere or fight a certain target.

3) You are going to want to have towers to explore anyways but I would put 1-2 towers near the entrance then yeah spread them out along the outside edges of the colony. Remember you can dismantle them or even leave them empty until you really need someone in them. You shouldn’t need an insane number of towers it’s not a game over if you have to rebuild one or two buildings by time you can direct all your guards to the fighting.

A bit more info:
Only your guards and specialists are armed, even if you have a ton of weapons other colonists won't use them.

Towers automaticly fire at ennemies, even if empty. Guards will do so if they are nearby. You can manually move any guard, either you spot one and select him/her, or you select a tower and click on the eye icon on a guard to select your gard. Then send them anywhere you want, like your specialists. You can even wake up sleeping ones with the second option.

The first use of towers is to remove fog of war. Once you fully discovered an area you can leave towers empty, remove them or leave things as they are. Its good to have towers on strategic places, like to protect group of buildings.

Wtf dude ?

I'm a grown up and I have played many RTS, not any recent ones, but surely I know most of the Command&Conquer, Warcraft and others of the golden era. Last RTS was World in Conflict, which is not that old.
Although this game it's not exactly a 100% RTS, many of its mechanics are.

I get to this page trying to find information on how to heal a guard, because when given an order to go to a place, they stay there, obviously they can't be sent directly to a healing building, because they just stay outside. I wanted to just "cancel" the stand by in order for them to get go for healing.

So your questions are totally bs.

lol, internet trolls dont bother me, appreciate the helpful responses.

Still have the main question though, the base gets quite large, and yes can have towers nearly everywhere on the perimeter....fine, but, when I am getting attached by animalsm inevitably, something finds it's way past a tower into the main area.

So, my question still stands: Will colonists, how are assinged to a tower, go and find the baddies attacking your base, or do they only patrol a small perimeter around the tower?

In other words, peremiter towers may not be enough on higher difficulties....I THINK you need a tower to cover all the area within your base, similar to having burners to keep buildings warm.

THanks again! Steve

Higher difficulties is quite easy after a bit of time, as far as you are prepared to watever could come. I droped the game as it become boring for this reason.

For guards I can't say as I was always picking them manually, I think they keep patrolling if they areb't an ennemy. The main reason to have towers is they will shoot at any ennemy in range. Also if there is no other building near ennemy spawn they will attack them, making your other buildings and population safe for a time.

When people are injured they automaticly go to a medical tent but stay assigned to their work building, making it less effecient. If you really need ressources from those buildings remove working slots and add them right away, valid workers will be assigned.
