I'm so confused... Controls aren't explained or laid out very well

How do I command specialists? I can't get them to do anything. I'd figure the mouse buttons are the way to go but they don't do anything. I have to use the enter key to interact with pretty much everything but it doesn't let me issue commands either.

Am I doing something wrong? Why are these controls so horrid?
It looks modeled after CNC generals but the controls are very unintuitive.

In the camp you can only tell them to attack or collect. In the open world you can only tell them to go somewhere, or build if your a settler. That's it. It's just left click, right click.

yeah left click and right click do absolutely nothing. I can only send them to the world map or back to the colony but any actual commands to the specialists does absolutely nothing. I can't tell them to gather resources, hunt animals, build structures, or scout locations on the world map either.

Should do. Hover over what you want to kill and a crosshair pops up. Hover over some berry's, wood or dead creature and a little crowbar pops up.
As far as I know they don't build anything.

Nope it was absolutely not working.

I restarted the game and went into settings and disabled controller controls. I don't even have a controller plugged in atm so not sure why it's enabled but after doing that the mouse works as expected and I'm able to control the specialists

Nope it was absolutely not working.
