200% difficulty - a few thoughts
Wow is this challenging! Always a shortage of resources -- both human and material. I am currently at Day 94 with a population of 71. I have just enough wood to cook the food (malnutrition finally under control). I don't have enough wood to make another tent, or even a second school. I have discovered all of the other societies, but they have nothing useful to trade -- even though I have rifles and tools to offer. It seems wrong to aim for an electronics factory when I can't even make schools for all the children. Setting aside enough wood for the bunker is a wild dream. Reforesting on barren land is losing battle and too frustrating. It would help if the food could be cooked with electricity. How have others dealt with this difficulty level? I love the game, but am frustrated by the hopelessness of the situation.

I was building a forest on a yellow (partly green) piece of land. There are not many such places on the map, but 1-2 will definitely be found. At first there was not enough forest, then there was more than enough. From time to time I buy boards from the neighbors. Where did you get such a large wood consumption? I have only 2 reinforced burners in the settlement, they are enough for me.

Although fish has dropped in value, I still use it as a resource for trading.

One kitchen is enough for me.

Perhaps you have a resource limitation issue? When I set up a production, I always set the resource limit to 1000 so that materials are always in stock.

I'm currently playing on this difficulty level and have a similar number of colonists. I seem to be just getting by with food, and tools and clothing is a struggle. But the big issue for me is "components" used in some buildings and specifically electrical generation. I got a few to make some basic electrical generation but that's all.

I have more than 71 inhabitants (97). I do not manufacture tools and clothing in the settlement (I save resources, I learned advanced resource gathering, but have not yet started building it). I recently began to receive clothing and tools from outposts, before that I did not feel a strong need for clothing and tools, especially now.

I agree that there may be problems with the components. Therefore, whenever possible, I try to purchase non-renewable resources from merchants in advance and collect them on the world map.

My neighbours have nothing useful to trade: no lumber, no firewood, and no components. Very difficult to make any progress.

@andrew_ch, @carassius
I have always been able to buy components on the easier difficulty levels but on max ... at least so far i have not been able to buy any. If this keeps up the only option i see will be far ahead researching the components factory and researching the ability to mine rare metal. I guess this is why it's the hardest setting.

All resources are sold by neighboring factions. They can change, just look more often what the neighbors are selling.

I always follow the market, and as soon as I see something I need, I immediately buy.

Thanks, i just noticed it became available after checking a few times.

really that was hard mode?!

wasn't a challenge for me at all felt no different. at the start quickly get a lumber yard (on yellow fertility tiles) and recycler up and running than rush the gate. the rest is EASY. build a few wells on the green spots no matter what the % is, a few water carriers and water storage to combat heatwave. still PLENTY of resources on the map go for the medicine first and stockpile it. build at least 4 med tents but only leave one staffed. when the pandemic hits staff all 4. and the unlimited scavenge spots make it a cake walk. also trade for whatever you need. wasn't difficult at all.

-you still get plenty of survivors at the gate it's not limited at all one bit.
- still lots of resources to scavenge i never needed to built a tailor or toolsmith.
- the disaster seem to stop coming after a while they are not hitting you constantly i had more than enough time to prepare for them and counter every single one.
- enemy territory is still easy to take down 3 or 4 fighters and your done.
- gate raids are no different mine never got breached once always goes to 20%
- never had a problem with components more than enough on the map as well as the rare metal unlimited resources. i never even bothered to research the new tech that gives you them never needed it it's pointless since it's so far down the tech tree by that time your swimming in components.

Were you playing on 200% ? I found it like you described on the regular hard mode but when i tried the new updates ultra hard mode i found there was hardly any resources and even the world map had only two locations for one-off scavenging of components, and only one location for rare metal, and no daily resources like in easier modes. I'm going to try it again in case it was just a bug.

yes i was playing at 200% was deff active since the research nodes were reduced, the land was basically barren and there was hardly any wood resources at the start.

@BLAde
I couldn't describe it better. It's exactly the way I experienced it with 200% difficulty!
Cheers,

I've just spent a few hours trying another new game on 200% and from the beginning it was noticably easier than my previous attempt, especially in finding components and clothing, there were many more sources on the world map. So this would match with others experiences.

there needs to be options in a new game selection to:
1. determine how many resources are on the map for beginners - lots and experts - very little.
2. determine how many scavenger nodes (unlimited resource spots) there are beginners - lots and experts - one or NONE

Med tents don't work once you get near 100 people, you need field hospitals even with ABX. With 60 people infected at the same time even 4 staffed tents aren't going to keep people from massive die offs.

I'm never swimming in components, but I'm building a lot of automated extractors. I'm swimming in basic materials like metal, wood and plastic but even with 2 factories running and constantly buying them (map is almost scaveneged out) I never have more than 200 on hand.

Hey guys, how about the "endgame", means the bunker? Anybody has already build one?
I just found out, that you have to be much much more careful with your resources & the number of inhabitants. Otherwise your bunker materials will stuck @ 14% & you can't do nothing.
Someone has experienced that too?
