Why 70% off rather than 80%?

I don't mean to sound rude, I'm just very curious as to the reason the developers (who seem to visit the forums, so hopefully will give a response) chose to discount their game 70% this sale (biggest sale of the year usually for Steam) rather than the 80% it has been discounted for in previous sales.

I did not have the extra money to pick this up during previous sales, but now that I do it's being offered at a higher price point. Usually prices stay the same or trend downward, and I'm just trying to understand this line of thinking (which sadly isn't unique, I have noticed a number of other games during this sale not reaching their previous lows, which is very odd).
