The game is not saved.
When you exit the game, the whole gameplay and outside the settings in the opies, are reset to the original ones.

This could be a problem with steam cloud. Could you please give some more detail?
  • What operating system are you using?
  • Did this happen once, or does it happen always?
  • Did you install/run the game on multiple steam installations?

I cannot restore your actual saves. However, I can help you to restore your progress by unlocking the levels you finished.

It always happens. I played for 2 hours, left the game, I go, but everything is the same as when I first started. Now I go, I play the first level, I go out and everything again. The system windows 7 x64. The game was installed once, on one computer. You do not need to restore it, you need to fix it to save the game.

I uploaded a new version today that should help fix/find the problem. The game will now try to detect problems and report them as text.

When the game is updated, just start the game. If there is any obvious problem, this will be detected and an errormessage is show. If not, play and finish level 1, then exit to the main menu to check if an errormessage is visible then.

If this still doesn't help, you could help me find any possible problem by disabling steam cloud for this game. This can be done from within steam. Go to properties on the game in the library. Then go to the tabpage 'Updates'. At the bottom there is a checkbox to enable/disable steam cloud.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any information.

Error writing highscres. Unable to write to file: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\spdr870\Operation Sheep Defense\highscores.sav Please check if this file and location are writable.

I checked that there are no files in the specified location. Disabling the cloud does not help.

The path shown in the errormessage is not what I expected. I am missing a username between the to backslashes after 'user'. Did you omit that for privacy reasons or isn't it there? If the username is not there, could you check the following on your system please?
  • Open the command prompt (cmd.exe)
  • Enter the following command: echo %APPDATA%
  • Check the result, is it the equal to the path from the errormessage?

Thanks for your help and patience!

No, I wrote exactly as it was written in error. I did not hide anything.
The user name exists. Could it be a problem that the user name is written in Russian?
C:\Users\Орлов\echo %APPDATA%
C:\Users\Орлов\AppData\Roaming

That indeed can be the problem. I will verify this.

I tested with some cyrillic characters in the path, and this indeed doesn't work on my system. However, this could depend on the windows language itself. In order to test further, I need to know something about your configuration. You mentioned you use Windows 7 x64. Your name is written with russion characters. What is your windows language? Is it English or Russion?

Since you mentioned that the config is saved, but only the highscores aren't, I did a few minor changes that might solve the problem for you. It is a long shot, but the code used to write highscores is now exaclty the same as for saving the config.

The language of Windows is also Russian. Perhaps we did not understand each other, but the configuration settings are also not saved. Your decision did not help. Reinstalled the game, with the cleaning of the computer, it did not help, the same error flies out.

Thanks for clarifying. I will look into it more. At least I am able to reproduce the issue locally.

I uploaded a new version to the Beta channel. I tested saving/loading both the highscores and the configuration. Could you please test if this solves the issue?

To enable the beta build go to the properties off the game in the steam library. Then select the betas tab, and select the beta.

The level editor will not work, I will fix this also if the test is successful. Thanks in advance!

Now you can disable the beta test?

For windows the fix has made it to the regular release. So, yes, you can switch back from the beta release to the regular release. For linux/mac the fix is not done yet.
