Finding all the missing light thingies

So, I've finished the game, but if I'm not misunderstanding the temple wall drawings, I seem to have missed several of the light thingies in several of the areas. So now I've replayed the red area, trying to find the one thing I seem to have missed there, and it's... been very confusing. Because in some places, the light thingies that I *remember* having collected are still/again there, for me to collect again... and in others? They aren't. And during this entire second playthrough of the area I haven't been able to identify the one I missed - and the temple still says I've got six out of seven.

Why are some of the things visible again, and others aren't? I would have thought the one I missed would be the only one visible. Or, alternatively, all of them. But instead it seems completely random.

Any ideas?

I think you're talking about mementos. You can finish the game without them but they can be fun to look for anyway. There's also a Steam achievement for finding them all. They are reset when you start a new playthrough so if that's what you did there shouldn't be any already done. Once you complete the game you can go back and do individual chapters again, and that allows you to collect the ones you missed on your first pass. There's one memento near the beginning that can't be collected on the first pass, so you do have to go back and get it at the end of the game. Other than that, many of them are very easy to miss so unless you're using a guide it's difficult to get all the mementos you can get on the first pass. It's not random.

Yeah, revisiting the chapters is what I've been doing... I think. And, as I said, weirdly, some of the mementos turn up and others don't. I'd really like to understand what's going on there.

The ones you found already are gone when you redo the chapter. Everything resets when you start a new game.

That is what I would have expected! But not what I actually observed. I finished the game with 6 out of 7 of the thingies in the first area; on my revisit, I found way more than one of the ones in that area *again*. Yet way less than 7 in total. And the temple still showed my score as 6 out of 7, after that.

Is my copy of the game glitching? (I have it on GOG, not Steam... maybe that makes a difference?)
