Getting 45 FPS only [Solved]
So I played the crack version of this game earlier. I do that with most of my games before I buy. It's like a demo for me. The crack was running perfectly fine. I was getting 60 FPS without any problem and I liked the game. So I decided to buy it since it's on a sale.

But now I am getting only 45 FPS on the original version. My config is not that high, but it's decent enough to run this game on 60 FPS. I am using AMD Ryzen 7 1700, AMD Radeon Rx 560 and my RAM is 16 GB. I got 60 FPS in games like Witcher 3 with this rig. So it shouldn't be a problem to get 60 FPS in GRIS. What should I do at this point? I really don't want to refund this game. It's one of those few games I wanted to keep in my collection. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update: So my monitor has 144 refresh rate, I set it to 60 and re-installed the game. It fixed the issue.

Your specs are looking fine to me. There is no real reason why the normal version should not run as smooth as the cracked one.

But - did you remove anything that the cracked version installed? Maybe some registry keys, local files, etc. are interferring? Cracks tend to sometimes mess around with the OS, local steam installation, etc. to make games work without the internet connection / DRM.

So I guess you should:

* check and try out different VSync setting ingame or with your graphic card driver settings
* verify installation files via Steam options
* remove anything that has or had to do with the cracked version completely (registry, local files, local setting files, fakes services, really everything)
* also consider to reinstall Steam as a test to make sure it was not altered

I played the crack version 4 - 5 months ago, then wishlisted this game and used iobit installer to uninstall it. Iobit cleans everything. Pretty sure whatever the crack installed was cleaned thoroughly. I have been testing cracks for 2 years now. It's usually to get a feel of the game. To decide whether I am gonna buy it or not. This is the first time I am encountering something like this though. It's usually the opposite, crack versions tends to be buggy. Besides... It was installed on a complete different drive. I don't see how it can mess anything with steam. However, thanks for the suggestions. I'll be sure to look in to it and keep the thread updated.

You're welcome.

Also consider to check anything that has to do with firewall and anti-virus software. Maybe the Steam DRM Wrapper is messing things up for you? That is the only difference to the cracked version. Try to disable everything for a brief test.

It would not be the first time I read about people having no problems playing the cracked version but with the copyprotected one.

Same problem here.
Also having a RX 560 (with i3-6100), which should be able to run this game without any problems at 1920x1080--or so I would expect.
FPS around 45, sometimes dropping to 30.
Unfortunately this is unplayable to me, so I also hope for a solution.
I never had a cracked version installed so I think we can safely rule that out.

Ok. So I am guessing the latter updates did something that caused this. It's a problem with the game. I liked this game so much. It's really annoying how the original version is giving us a problem, yet the crack version was running smoothly.

Small update: I tried a few things and what worked for me was changing the refresh rate of my monitor to 60 Hz in Windows' display settings. The FPS seems locked to 60 Hz now as well, and everything is smooth.

Before this the refresh rate was 29 Hz (don't ask me why) and the FPS was variable, what probably caused the stuttering somehow.

Update: I had somewhat similar case. My Hz was set to 90. I turned it down to 60, but I was still getting 45 FPS. Then I uninstalled and re-installed the game. It's running on 60 FPS smoothly now.

My guess is that it's either something with the display Hz setting or my first installation had some problems.

I know this is old, but I found out how to play it on my monitor with 144Hz refresh rate:

On Launch parameters just add this line:

-window-mode exclusive

And the game will run so smooth you wouldn't believe it :D

Here are more configurations in case you need it: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/GRIS
