Solution to DirectPlay (dplayx.dll) installation errors
I've noticed a few posts here regarding the error some users receive when trying to play C2:MOC. A message would pop up after a failed installation, saying something along the lines of:

"The procedure * could not be found in DLL DPLAYX.dll"

The solution can be found by following three easy (and quick) steps:

1. Make your way to the folder C:\Windows\SysWOW64, and then find the file named 'dplayx.dll'
2. Copy this file and paste it in the same location; it should appear as 'dplayx - Copy.dll'.
3. Rename the copied file to 'dplay.dll', then run the game again, allowing the DirectPlay feature to install.

Sorted :)

Here is the thing to install DirectPlay under Windows 8.1 x64 :

1) Go into Safe Mode (check out guides on how tp)
2) Press [Windows + X] or open the Control Panel and look for "Programs and Features"
3) Click on "Turn Windows features on or off" on the left menu
4) Look for "Legacy Components" and tick "Direct Play"
5) Wait for it to install and confirm it's done
6) Reboot normally
7) Now your game should launch properly

Enjoy !

You just helped me get F-22 Lightning 3 working on Windows 10 x64, thanks! (problem showed as an "Access Denied" 0xc0000022 error, Process Monitor showed the file being accessed was dplayx.dll, searched from there).

Well, thank you for that. Had the same error in Win10 while trying to play Crimson Skies.

Guess this is a flaw or something, since when running on old windows compatibility modes DirectPlay should be automatically enabled... Took me days, the Process Monitor and Mandra's post to figure out what was wrong, lol.

This worked to solve my Windows 10 DPlayX.dll missing error while trying to run Space Empires V. And I didn't even have to go into safe mode or reboot!
