Commandos 2: Men of Courage

Commandos 2: Men of Courage

Got it working on Windows 7 x64
First I've got to say i basically read a few discussions on here and saw it was a risky buy but got it on sale. It didn't work immediately (surprise surprise) it just hung in a small window, then i tried step 1 below and it started up loaded the menu but when i started the mission it was just a black screen with a pointer. I saw a few different ideas and fixes some worked some didn't. I just tried a few of them and got it working so thanks to all of you who've posted ideas.
So here's what i did
1. copied the 2 dll files "steam.dll and steamclient64.dll" from the - Programs (86)>steam folder and placed them in the - Programs (86)>steam>steamapps>common>commandos 2 men of courage folder
2. Got the patch from here http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=132134
Extracted it to Programs (86)>steam>steamapps>common>commandos 2 men of courage folder ( a replacement .exe and also a data folder) so you should overwrite the ones that are in there already.
3. Which i found very important and wouldn't run without it was to start STEAM by right clicking and selecting "run as administrator". If steam updates while starting you may have to start it again
4. Right Click on the game in your Library select properties and uncheck "steamoverlay in game"
5. Start the game as normal in steam
Hope it helps someone

ah sorry to hear that. try right click on the comm2.exe make sure windows compatibility, 256 colors, run in 640x480 and run as administrator are all unchecked,
And disable visual themes, disable desktop composition, display scaling are all checked. Also make sure that in steam commandos 2 properties there is no launch options in there
Hope you get it working soon, sorry if it doesnt help

Jellie - try this: go into the DATA\WOFIP folder and rename these 3 files: DATAEI.pop, DATALE00.pop and DATARO.pop - then try running it again, this worked for me!

Apparently they use an old codec ( Ligos Indeo Codec 5.11) to work so by renaming them you
can trick the game.

Good luck!

My Windows-username has full admin rights on my pc. Maybe that helps.

It is a real mystery, because it works on my Win7 x64 as well, without any fixes.

No problems here either...soon to be windows 10 64bit though
At first I was thinking maybe you need a glide wrapper
but IDK because that link has you copy a modified exe for the game.

Works fine for me on W7 and in 1920*1080 (core i7 + 560Ti). Be aware if you succeed : the first two levels of the game have small maps, so they won't be displayed full screen but the game is really full resolution. You can use multiview (F3 - F9) to be sure of that ;). Great game, hard to leave the mouse !!!

Doing both of these 2 steps together worked. Note: I renamed the above 3 files to 1.pop, 2.pop and 3.pop.
