no sound?

Hi, when I start the game music plays, but there's no sound. When someone speaks, when I shoot etc. I saw that it's recommended to run in xp compatible mode, but I don't see that option for steam games. Where is it? Or what else could I do to get the sound working?

EDIT: ok, so compatibility mode did not help at all. And legacy version crashes, both in normal and compatibility mode. Any ideas?
