Please, help.
I guess reinstall Commandos 2 is best option, seems the mod changes most of the game files

Only problem is, everytime you press ESC to go into menu, it goes to desktop, shows small 800x600 window in upper left corner, then goes into the game again. This takes exactly 13s, same to go from menu back to the game.
Very frustrating to say the least.
But this HD mod works flawlessly.
Only problem for me is I have 2560x1440 resolution, stretched is usually better than a small screen and black borders.
Controls are very hard to figure by yourself, as I tried mission 6, and I didn't know how to get into the boat again with diver. Also right click (even selecting with a square!) instead of left as in Desperados will take some time to get used to.
Here is what is wrong with HD Project:
1. internal resolution is 1280x960 (4:3), stretched horizontally to 1920x1080
2. image is brightened for no obvious reason
Here is HD Project 1280x960 and widescreen patch 1280x720:

Main problem with this game in Windows 10 is long time to get into the menu when you press ESC, same when you press it again to get back to the game.
There are different ways to fix this, so I tried them all with stopwatch in my hand.
no fixes and resolution 640x480: instantly
no fixes and resolution 800x600 or 1024x768 or higher with WS patch: 12,5s
dgVoodoo and 1024x768 or higher with WS patch: 1s
Commandos HD Project: instantly
Focus assist off and resolution 640x480: instantly
Focus assist off and resolution 800x600 or 1024x768 or higher with WS patch: 1s or 1,6s (sometimes it takes longer)
There is only one new problem, when you get into the game and into the menu, Windows taskbar flashes once.
And FRAPS doesn't work, but it does with dgVoodoo.
Also ALT+TAB doesn't work in any of the fixes except HD Project.
I think turning off Focus assist and playing with Widescreen Patch with resolution 1366x768 is the best solution for this game.
With this resolution, you get the same height as in original 1024x768, but you see more in width.
Higher resolutions don't work, then you have smearing/tearing graphics.
And dgVoodoo is obsolete now that you can fix it directly in Windows.
Thanks, your recommendation worked but only on the "legacy" version of steam. The non-legacy crashes instantly when replacing the widescreen exe.
Had same problem. Delete DXGI.dll and while starting the game, uncheck "Reshare effects". I don't know why, but it helped me.
