Just play commandos 2, it's better then 3 anyways.
Commandos 2 doesnt need 1 for any premise or story help, and is not so much Easier as it is less ridiculously unfair. I started with commandos 2 and its still my favorite.
Destination berlin is iffy, 2 is where its at
Commandos 2 is kinda dumbed down in that you can escape if an enemy spots you, and you are free to use louder weapons much more often without hassle. But for someone new I guess it will be easier to get into. Personally I only play Commandos 2 with the Destination Paris mod these days. So I guess it's also got the best replay value, and it has the best multiplayer of the series by far.
Either way both are better than Commandos 3, which had a lot of flaws. The biggest difference between the first 2 games is that in the first game it's more about being stealthy, working your buttocks off to finally do the objective and maybe get a tank and blast the ♥♥♥♥ out of everyone after the hard work, and the 2nd is better if you prefer having more choice in how to complete the mission.
