Why do I have to unlock places
I bought this game so I could relax and ride whenever. Not sure why their isnt a freeroam mode. Feels like the devs don't understand this kind of game. The main focus should'nt be on a unlocking stuff, I should already have it. ADD A FREEROAM MODE SO I CAN PLAY EVERY MAP. Its simple...

This is one of the most stressful games you could buy, you shouldn't have bought this if you were looking for a relaxing experience. Maybe you should do more research before buying something.

Adrenaline fueled - Those are two words that describe the game well.

Hey Nicky!

You don't need to focus on unlocking areas at all, you can simply freeroam around to your heart's content. We are looking into adding a full freeroam mode, but even then you would need to unlock the worlds before you're allowed to jump straight to them.

Sorry! This is a video game though, and video games rarely give you all the content without challenging you first :)

I personally enjoyed unlocking shortcuts to all the other zones because it helped me get familiar with the stunts and skilled at the other zones I had to ride through to reach the boss jump and complete the Shortcut objective. There are PLENTY of us that have gone through unlocking the shortcuts, its just takes a little time and it gives you some worthwhile practice.

If you don't have the patience to do it, I'm really sorry to hear that you'll be missing out on an awesome title :( You don't even have to go hard through the earlier nodes of a map, just play it safe until you reach the boss jump if you want the shortcut badly!

I mean.... it doesn't take long to unlock the areas.

You can also unlock the areas through practice mode (i unlocked forest and Canyons and marked a jump for Peaks in practice), it's still 4 races + Boss Jump (and 3 missions completed on this level) but you don't lose (or gain) Rep... if that helps, anyway...

This is not a racing game its more like Trails and Elastomania. You need to unlock things in those games too...

wrong i think, pCars, assetto, raceroom, F1 2017, Forza 7 and all others racing games give you all the content at start, you choose the race location and the cars.
i have refunded exaclty cause i haven't all locations unlocked.

Koly this is not a racing game, this is mountain biking game. You keep comparing this to games that have nothing in common with the design and gameplay of this game other than the fact that cars and bikes both have wheels LOL. There are HUNDREDS of games that don't hand you all the unlocks on a silver platter after buying the game, and for good reasons too.

The main way you make progress in those games you mentioned is simply by being the fastest, practicing the same tracks over and over and over again, and always coming in first place. There is a decent reason they give you a lot of the content unlocked in those games (and even then there is still stuff you have to unlock which you don't mention.)

That reason being that those games you mentioned are competitive, time-attack based racing games where you are competing to outpace and outdrive all the other drivers competing with you. Where progression in those games is made by making the fastest times and finishing first, where you need to have all the tracks to practice on before going into some kind of ranked game where you could end up on any of the tracks.

You aren't doing stunts with cars in these games you listed. You aren't hitting the dirt and doing flips and 360s over things like rocks, flaming towers, and crazy gaps. You aren't worrying if you have too much or too little speed to hit this jump at in games like Forza and Project Cars. You aren't worried about bailing and losing the Rep and leaderboard positions you worked hard to earn. In the games you listed, you are driving practically in a circle trying to get the fastest finish so you can beat everybody else. If you can't see the difference already, then I am sorry to hear that.

Descenders progression and competitive aspect doesn't work like that. It's about riding and having fun, climbing the rep leaderboards, unlocking some neat cosmetics and shortcuts to other zones, doing stunts, being creative, and getting better at the game itself. This is a game with a pretty high skillcap as well, and a big part of the progression is starting off in the easier zones and unlocking the more difficult zones permanently as you get better at the game.

And if you are going to say "Well maybe all the zones should be unlocked so I can be creative and make movies?" Maybe spend an hour or two unlocking all the zones like everybody else has? It's not really that hard if you're careful and cheese your way to the Boss Jumps.

It also wouldn't be a lot of fun for new players to try the game for two hours with all the zones unlocked, only to spend that time in the hardest zones, not being able to play much of anything because they don't know how to play the game, let alone on the harder zones. And there is plenty of footage online to see the later zones if somebody is so curious to see what they consist of.

I think its pretty clear when you look at gameplay or even read the Steam Store Page that Descenders isn't even close to being focused on racing in the same way the other games you mentioned focus on racing, and I really think you missed the point of the game, or didn't read about what the game is looking to accomplish? Like I said to you before, the devs even have a tip in the game reminding you that this isn't a race.

What movies are you trying to make with this game in the first place where you need all the zones unlocked? Chances are you wouldn't be able to actually do much of anything worth filming on the later zones other than filming yourself bailing because you would be so unfamiliar with the controls and mechanics still. Did you just want all the zones unlocked so you could just film for an hour and still refund the game anyway?

There is a huge difference between these two genres you're comparing but you don't seem to see that. You continue to believe this is a game that is only about racing and being the fastest, but thats just incorrect. I really think you are missing out by making the idea of spending an hour or two to unlock the shortcuts sound so difficult and time consuming to yourself.

Hope the perspective of a Mountain Biker helps you understand the big differences between a freeride Mountain Biking game and a bunch of Circuit Racing games.
