Bonus Areas?

So I've been looking through the forums and have been really confused as to the lack of discussion surrounding the bonus areas. I've seen no tutorials, no speculation, not even asking what they are at the moment. Has anyone even FOUND these yet? Have they found it and decide not to share it?

I've been looking for them myself for a while now, to no avail. I can't really figure it out and would appreciate any hints, but I don't see anyone sharing them... ;(

Most of the discussion surrounding various aspects and facets of this game take place in the Discord server; the forums, from what I've observed, are a lot quieter (and generally populated with more trolls). I highly suggest you join it. Make new friends. We won't bite.

As to your actual question, there is a science to it. Draw a horizontal line that bisects the region map equally. Find out which half the boss jump node is in. Most of the time, the bonus area will be in the opposite half to the half the boss node is in, with few exceptions, and on the outermost of the map (that is, either the topmost nodes or the bottommost nodes).

Did you know this game has a wiki? Maybe something in some of these pages[descenders.gamepedia.com] may help.

Man, why did they make it so difficult to get to the vulcano area? I made it all the way through the 4 regions with the fire-boss jumps, but the final peaks boss jump was broken (almost a vertical drop, impossible to brake, reaching about 130 on full brakes).

Yes, you have to complete a firenode and boss level from highlands to peaks. It doesn't create a shortcut either, so the only way to get there is to do a full run every time

Tell me about it, I've been trying to go through the hoops but sometimes it's almost impossible to hit it *just* right, and even when I complete the boss jump I know I've failed. Argh!

I finally made it to the vulcano section by harvesting a lot of lives and generally taking it pretty easy. Turns out the vulcano world has a firenode and jump too, which sadly I didn't make.

Getting there is definitely a challenge

I have managed to get to the volcano, my question is do you have to do each area every time you want to reach the volcano or can you start at peaks once you have got there once?

you need to do all 4 rings of fire to access volcano (or beat it so you can get access to it in freeride)

There's no shortcut yet, so you just have to jump through all 4 rings every time you want to get there. I wouldn't bother getting there before there's a shortcut to it, because it's not something you're gonna want to do over and over

@hateme27 if you finish the Volcano boss jump you've unlocked it in Freeride, meaning you can play the Volcano environment as much as you want.
