Like Burby said above, their prioritizes are in a different place, working on something I would say affects a lot more players or just the main gameplay itself. Any bug reports or issues that you take the time to report to the developers will help them fix these issues faster, every report counts!
On a personal note, I really dont think Microsoft abandoning the PC gaming industry has anything to do with some games recommending controller. Not all games go well over a keyboard. iRacing and Project Cars is an example of non-console games that would play terrible with mouse and keyboard. Racing and driving games aren't really good for keyboards, and I feel biking falls under that as well. Like imagine playing Skate 2 with a freaking mouse and keyboard LOL, that sounds god awful to me.
Some games are better off being controller-oriented. The reason most of them start on console originally is typically because the developers believe the game would be best developed on controller (with the exception of FPS on consoles.) And this is coming from somebody who hasn't bought a console since the 360 first launched. Monster Hunter World is another good example. Game is being built for controllers first because action games like that are supposed to be played with a controller first and foremost, then they look at their full range of controls they have and figure out how to best apply that to a mouse and keyboard. They also have probably a couple hundred more staff members than Ragesquid does, along with the big CAPCOM bucks LOL.
Todd he is saying PC gaming started with controllers well before console. PC games used to used Joysticks very heavily back in the day. I am sorry you are so bitter by consoles making it so that PC games sometimes prefer you to have a controller, and you are so against using a controller on PC, but your loss man.
There are many many other folks who would have to disagree with you, and not just to go along with the crowd, but because there legitimately isn't anything wrong with having controller-preferred games on PC. Like I said, there are a decent amount of game genres that work better with a controller, or get designed to be played with controller first because it is the best, most natural medium to play the game with until a solid keyboard control scheme is figured out. PC gaming and console gaming are pretty evenly split in preference, and there are many people that have both.
im questioning why they want to force people to use the xbo xone controller.
this game is sold on steam. i have a steam controller. i guess its still early so there is time but if i wanted to use a console controller i would buy a console.
The Steam Controller is one of the most least popular main brand controllers available with only 500,000 units sold to date. Descenders has around 4k Owners from what I saw online, I imagine you and a small handful of others are the only ones using a Steam Controller for this, so it makes sense if you're going to do Early Access to nail down the most popular controllers used by people to play on PC first.
Not every game, even full release titles have Steam Controller support. What sounds most logical to me would be because what are the odds of somebody having a Steam Controller over a console controller, PS or Xbox? When you have (in this case) a 4 man team and limited resources, you have to make decisions on what to prioritize first and foremost. In this case, the most commonly used controllers for PC gaming were picked to be fleshed out fully for its Early Access launch (where not everything is going to be complete.) More controllers will be better supported soon.
You dont need to buy an Xbox One controller nessecarily, 360 ones work too and are cheaper. Cheaper than a Steam Controller and more widely supported. I have only used Xbox 360 controllers to play on my PC because of that reason alone. Descenders is also coming to consoles as well.
I am not sure if there is like a Console early access since I don't own a new console, but logically it would also make sense to use your limited man power and resources to program the game for those controllers first since its a genre of game that already plays better with a controller.
Its also because like I said before, Plug and Play technology specific to PCs and Microsoft. Plug and Play was created and introduced on Windows operating systems to allow gamers and developers the most simple and straightforward way to connect and bind controls for Xbox controllers. Its just a part of Windows and one of the most widely utilized methods of playing with a controller on a PC.
I am sorry to hear this has impacted your experience so much and understandably so when you have one controller :/ But you have to remember this is Early Access and you are trying to use a pretty unpopular controller with a game that just launched into Early Access, on top of it being a game that is being released on both PS4 and Xbox.
Just talk with the developers on Discord and see how you can send them data on what problems you are having with the Steam Controller. Every report will help give them more to work with when improving how the Steam Controller works with their game.
