this isn't cheating... it's an actual feature... its to make the game limitless as far as path choice goes, i have played this game quite a bit and a buddy got a dev copy of the game and played a week before release and without this feature like 99% of the timed challenges are next to impossible... plus on maps such as canyon you can throw some insane tricks of the canyon walls near the trails... its not cheating its adding a sense of freedom
Its part of the game and the freedom, but its also a safety feature. I am sorry to hear you find so little value in the content and mechanics of the game.
I get where you are coming from, however adding points for staying on the trail would give teams like Enemy and Kinetic an advantage on the leaderboard, since Aboreal is dedicated to people that enjoy trail-less riding. In fact the person with the most Rep in the game is a stunter and a tricker from Enemy.
