It's not like the course completion is based off time at all. In fact, seeing as the game revolves around rep, you could argue that the smaller chance at getting rep at all is enough of an incentive to stay on the track, unless you know particular ways in which not to. There's even one team whose bread and butter is off-track expertise. So long as going off track doesn't give you unfair advantages on the leaderboards, I don't see why it should be prohibited.
I stick to the track out of preference and enjoyment. Gives me a goal in each of my runs and helps me improve. I think its nice to have the option to play on the track or use the environment around you whenever you like.

the fact that you can just cheat on every course kind of ruins the fun. I mean I know you don't have to cheat, but IMO game would be a lot more fun and challenging if you had to remain in bounds of the course.

this isn't cheating... it's an actual feature... its to make the game limitless as far as path choice goes, i have played this game quite a bit and a buddy got a dev copy of the game and played a week before release and without this feature like 99% of the timed challenges are next to impossible... plus on maps such as canyon you can throw some insane tricks of the canyon walls near the trails... its not cheating its adding a sense of freedom
its dumb, there is no need for a track in the first place if thats the case, also if this game would be 10 bucks it would actually sell decently
I think there are plenty of players who would disagree with you moOx. Sometimes the procedural generation can make paths you cannot get over without enough speed, so if you bail on a part before it, you can at least ride path it.

Its part of the game and the freedom, but its also a safety feature. I am sorry to hear you find so little value in the content and mechanics of the game.
just adding points if ur stayin on the road would fix it. And u can't rly cheat, if u dont follow the road u barely get any points i think. You need the freestyle and flips for points to rly get somewhere... otherwise u just bail and lose the points

I get where you are coming from, however adding points for staying on the trail would give teams like Enemy and Kinetic an advantage on the leaderboard, since Aboreal is dedicated to people that enjoy trail-less riding. In fact the person with the most Rep in the game is a stunter and a tricker from Enemy.
