Controller Issues? READ THIS

Hey all! We've had a small number of people saying that they've been having issues playing the game with a controller. It's a tricky issue to fix on our side, because it's only a very small number of people actually having this issue -- the vast majority of players are using a controller, and are seeing no issues. Indeed, on our side we've tried playing the game with a variety of controllers, including Xbox and PlayStation controllers, and have been unable to replicate the issues.

With this in mind, it's most likely that if you're having issues, something is happening between Descenders and certain plugins installed on your PC, having a little fight over who gets to do what. To try to fix this, we'd suggest trying the following:

1. Run the game in Big Picture Mode. In the options for Big Picture Mode, you can select Controller Settings, and can specifically tell Steam what sort of controller you have, and even manually tell it what you want your controller to do. We believe doing this will sort out the vast majority of issues people are having.

2. If this doesn't work, we'd suggest finding out which weird plugins are running on your PC, and especially think about anything weird you have physically attached to your PC, as these can also cause conflicts between your controller and the game

3. If it's still not working, we'd suggest grabbing a different controller and seeing if that works -- it may well be that it's just that specific controller that is being funky with the game.

If none of the above works, we're happy to hear about your issue below -- please just make sure you tell us the following:

a. Send us your output log -- you can find it in C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\LocalLow\RageSquid\Descenders\output_log.txt -- send it to [e-mail]
b. What kind of controller you have
c. Whether it's an official or unofficial controller
d. What happens when you fiddle with Big Picture settings -- does it do nothing at all?

I did some research for these developers since I want to actually be able to play the game as it is intended. I play on the Xbox app with my Xbox One controller that has Bluetooth. The controller works perfectly for games such as BeamNG Drive, but as soon as I fire up Descenders it constantly turns on and off, atleast it feels like it loses connection and then reestablishes it seconds after, so you really can't play the game at all.

In short my controller "inputs when in Descenders turn on/off all the time, even digital inputs (buttons) are not consistent at all. It's literally impossible to turn consistently, it's impossible to do any "accelerate all the time" challenge..."

I tried fiddeling with the Bluetooth and discovered that in my case, Descenders actually disturbs the Bluetooth connection constantly disconnecting and reconnecting to my PC, and when it's connecting I lose control over my character obviously. This could be worth looking into for the developers, so that there may be an option to "Connect to XBOX Bluetooth" or whatever.

EDIT: What's really weird is that I disconnected and reconnected my controller, and after that it worked fine, so defenitely something in the game that disturbs the Bluetooth. FYI I tried all the suggested solutions and none of those worked.

Using an XBOX wireless controller (Bluetooth) the game fails to work properly, It picks up input for five seconds then completely blanks out for five seconds and doesn't accept joystick input or buttons and I crash.

This happens in exclusive fullscreen and borderless.

This is the only game with this issue, I've played other games right after for over an hour with no controller issues.

EDIT: FIXED IT. Right click game, Properties, Controller, force enable STEAM Input.

the problem happens when the game loads the controller config via steam, if i plug in my controller after unplugging it while playing i get 15 seconds of play time before the config loads and ruins everything and i cant seem to disable it, i just get unresponsive controls until it errors and plugging it back in doesnt work, this is the most progress i have made in 2 years, controller is a generic xbox emulator controller from china, nothing special but works fine in any other game. the problem i think is the communication between the client running the game (in this case steam) and the game itself.

Same here. Wireless Xbox One controller for PC doesn't work anymore in this game! Devs, please fix this!

u need just to click on steam right above big picture and then go to controllers then do it playstation on and the first one then u can pls normol

How is this still an issue? I'm on game pass PC and it's impossible to use a controller with this game and only this game.

how the ♥♥♥♥ is this still an issue? I tried everything suggested in this thread and nothing works for me. Seems like the developers don't care about the issue because it's working for the majority, which is really sad.
I am using a XBOX Wireless Controller (Bluetooth) and run the game on MacOS.

Hello I had an issue with any controller, it worked and stopped... (no disconnection)
I've tryed everything
I've resolved it:
1) right click on the file descenders.exe, /property/ compatibility/and then chek box admisnistror mode, apply.
2)right click on the file descenders.exe, /property/ compatibility/and then uncheck chek box admisnistror mode, apply. *********apply modification for all user********* in french: modifier les parametres pour tous les utilisateurs.

B'cause this note says that 'small number of people' who has the problem is not their concern. And there are 147 comments of small number.

Never acted on my performance of controller, and wanted to see how to handle this.
However, what does it say? It's Your problem, not their.

I HAVE USED THIS CONTROLLER FOR 3 YEARS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM EXCEPT THIS.

Controller Issue is a big big problem on racing game, but still got this?
This game has failed, refund this game whoever seeing this one.

i have the same issue, i tried what the devs recommended but i cant use my xbox controller.

and it worked before!!! players complain about controller issues since years... would be awesome if you would take a look at it! @no more robots

This doesnt fix anything. After playing for a few weeks my controller just random wont work anymore. 100% a dev bug
