You may want to check the Descenders wikipedia if you want more informations about cosmetic unlocks : https://descenders.gamepedia.com/Items
There are four categories of comestic items : common, uncommon, rare and extraordinary.
The "basic bikes" you mentioned are probably the common ones. These are the ones you get when you end a run with an amount of rep ranging from 1000 to 5000.
The Lynx bikes you mentioned are uncommon items, so you'll need at least 2000 rep in a single run to have a chance to unlock one. The statistics work this way : at 2000 rep, you'll have a 20% chance to get an uncommon item. At 4000 rep, you'll have a 40% chance to get one. It goes up to 10 000 rep, giving you a 100% chance to get an uncommon item. Then the game will choose an item from the pool of uncommon items : it may or may not be a bike though.
Rare items require 10 000 rep in order to have a 20% chance to get one (up to 50 000 rep for a 100% chance).
I hope my explanations were understandable.
The Wikipedia page I gave you lists almost every items in the game, check it out so you can spot the items you want to unlock.
TL;DR : Aim for 10 000 rep runs if you want a chance to get a "custom" bike
