Hey Folks!

I think I manged to squash most of the bugs by now, but some might have slipped here and there. Post here if you encounter any issues and I'll be taking a look!

If you only see a black screen on startup

Please check this thread.

If the game crashes on startup

Try going to to C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\ and delete the "headliner" folder. If that does not fix it, try also going to ~\Steam\steamapps\common\HEADLINER and deleting hlsettings.cfg and, worst case, the "saves" folder.

I'm still having issues!

CatJulia - unfortunately that is an issue with the framework I am using (NWJS). It's been on their git bug list for well over a year, so I am not hopeful for a fix :/ There isn't much I can do on my end unfortunately.

The screen upon launching the game goes to black with just the text "The Last Headline" with a quote, and nothing else. The screen does not respond to anything and the program has to be closed. I've been unable to advance past this screen to even the title screen. Running on Mac. Thanks in advance.

Hey Istalya, this is a known issue I've been working on, but I haven't been able to reproduce on my end. If you don't mind helping a bit, shoot me a message here and I will send you a test build with all sorts of LOG spam to help me figure out what's going on:

Fixed for next version. Might have been back when Twittter had 140 char limits so I was trying to keep the texts brief :p

When I start the game I get a black screen with just one article and a black window beside from that with music playing. No UI or what so ever. I couldn't find the log.log file.

The CLI output is very quiet, the only error I get is

Connection InterfaceProviderSpec prevented service: content_renderer from binding interface: blink::mojom::ReportingServiceProxy exposed by: content_browser

while I have no idea whether that is connected to my issue at all.

Atis, what is your operating system? You can try launching the game from console (inside steamapps/common/headliner) with the following console params:

--disable-gpu --force-cpu-draw

if that doesn't work, you can also try

--disable-webgl

or

--disable-3d-apis

@Koobazaur: Thanks for the reply! My OS is openSUSE.

--disable-webgl
had certainly an effect. It now showed the short into, but when it came to the menu it is displayed normally for 100-300 ms (hard to say exactly), until I get the same (nearly) black screen again. The other parameters didn't have any apparent effects.

Atis, I had some Linux/Mac folks report the problem, and what usually worked is either the switches or updating their graphics card drivers. Can you update everything to latest versions and see if that takes care of it? I believe the problem is with transparent rendering in WebGL mode, but oddly it occurs only sporadically on Mac/Linux, so I haven't been able to reproduce it on my end :|

I know this is an old Topic an all but I literally cannot get this game working... If I try running it on windows 7 the game won't even load up it just runs in background and won't close or even open a window.

I tried on my linux OS it gose abit further it starts up somtimes it even gets as far as the character creation screen then the screen turns black, the game still plays as you can still click on things but everything is pitch black I tried all the recommended arguments such as forcing CPU draw ect this only makes it worse but triggers the same issue sooner.

Hey Pebbles, sorry for late reply! Dang, I haven't had a chance to test it on Win7 but there is no reason it shouldn't work.

The black-screen bug has been my mortal woe since I released the game and I've been battling to fix it but running out of potions. If you have some spare time and don't mind, hop onto our discord[discord.gg] and ping me, and we can do a bit of back-n-forth as I send you an experimental build with possible fix. I can't reproduce the bug on my end at all, so it's been difficult trying to fix it.

Either way, go ahead and request a refund. Sorry you had a crappy experience :(

Hello. I'v e almost got 100 precent, but the achievement 'badliner' can't completed. I did everyhing I had to do to get it but nothing works. What should I do?

I have an achievement guide up, have you checked it out? I list the steps necessary to gain the badliner achievement. If you only accept the articles that are listed and reject ALL the other articles, you will be able to get it. I had double checked my steps yesterday to make sure that it works ^^
