Stuttering and Frame Rate Issues
We are aware of an issue with our DX12 implementation that can cause PC players to encounter stuttering, a hard crash or shader cache issues due to an overloaded CPU.

We are investigating this urgently and hope to provide a resolution in the near future.

POTENTIAL WORKAROUND:
  • Select the "Play Outriders- DirectX11" launch option when starting the game.
  • Alternatively, force DX11 to run the game via a command line

In Steam : Outriders Demo -> Manage -> Properties -> Launch option-> Write the below in the textbox without the " "

    "-force -dx11"
Please also check whether you have the latest NVIDIA Game Ready installed. If you currently have the latest driver already installed, please consider rolling back to the previous driver to see if this affects anything.

Alternative Workarounds:
  • Disable Ansel
  • Disable DLSS
  • Turn Vsync off
  • Enable your FPS Limiter and choose various limits to see if improvements are made
  • Ensure Controller Configuration is supported (thread)
  • Exclude the Outriders game folder in Windows Defender.
    • Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
    • Under Virus & threat protection settings, select Manage settings > Exclusions > "Add or remove exclusions".
    • Select Add an exclusion,
    • Select folders and add the Outriders game folder in steamapps/common

Please note that we are also aware of an issue whereby stuttering can occur whenever you visit a new area or encounter new enemies/powers etc. This should only occur the FIRST time however, with subsequent visits being stutter-free.

Thanks for the info Toby but i really thought you would have fixed this already in the upcoming day 1 patch?

It should be, and we additionally added the DX11 option as an extra safeguard, but we're keeping a close eye on it. Can you confirm whether you downloaded the extra patch that was released today?

For some reason, with the supposed glorious WHQL Gameready driver for Outriders, my 144hz display is locked to 60hz in game at all times. No matter if VSync is on or off or when using the fps limit setting.

Hi Toby, DX12 is working fine on my end. I had stuttering in the first few minutes but went away after the lobby loaded

As someone who lucked out and is running this game on a 3080 I can promise you you aren't missing out on much since a higher framerate just gets buried under a ton of hitching and chugging.

This has a very old UE feeling where anytime something loads in the whole game just chugs for 10 to 15 seconds

Disabling Nvidia photo mode helps with stuttering, go into geforce experience, pull up overlay, disable photo mode (Ansel)

DX12 is kind of garbage in tons of different games so it doesn't surprise me that it is messed up in this game too. I am just glad we can fallback to DX11. Division 2 has the same issue with DX12 and they never fixed it.

Would Vulcan ever be on the table as an option?

DX12 runs worse & using a controller causes major stuttering...

(PC specs on profile, game is borked not me)

Yes, it downloaded another 2,6 gigs after the preload.
Funny enough i first chose DX12 at the presented options at start but i can't reverse it to DX11 so far. Both methods you suggested failed.
Won't change to DX11 even if i select it at startup. No success with the "-force -dx11" option either.
Will continue trying it, lets see.

I confirm, DX12 unplaybable where it was fine with the demo. DX11 makes everything look so 2010. DX12 looks amazing, but again, unplayable with the stuttering. I second the Vulcan option if that's on the table.

I tried to force dx11 as you suggested but it insinsts on running dx12.
Any additional help would be appreciated.

I reloaded as DX12 and after in the game I changed my settings from ultra to high and the stuttering has lessened. Again, ran fine with Ultra on the demo, but so far at least it's playable on high.

For me, the workaround doesn't work either, plus the fact that I don't see any menus when I want to talk to people, so I'm not able to do anything except walk around town.

I mean, the demo was really great and now this, all the DirectX 12 crap, no one can talk me through it.

Thanks, that worked for me.
I used the short guide here https://gist.github.com/d-schmidt/ad821748cdcbb128ea365ba32a365389
