Steam PC coop crossplay with Xbox Gamepass, possible? [SOLVED]

I bought this game in Steam (and i'm loving it, i don't know why all the fuzz in the reviews), and my friend will get an Xbox console soon with Gamepass on it. Can we play together thru crossplay? If yes, how? Thanks.

I have never played multiplayer, but I do see an "Enable Crossplay" setting that defaulted to "on" for me. It says that it is beta, so no idea if it works.

Yes it is possible to own the game on steam and play with someone on xbox game pass.
