What a pity. I would pay on pre order if it had happened.
The less i can expect is they change their mind or to create a similar game.
You never know. I think that the game has great quality. Its not played by many people cuz its not a live service game. People await regular content drops for a MMORPG and this is for sure better than most live service games but the quality is lower if you have to drop content every other 3 months as soon as a new season pass starts.
your comment is soo wrong if this was better than most games as you say it wouldnt be dead
how can explain this to you
you put a good game in the hands of a team that doesnt care and doesnt give a fk about feedback from players or fix and improve the game = always 100% dead game
.
you put a mediocre game like you said with have a team that love their work speaks to the community and do everything for it put all time and love into it = a gem with long life
.
GUESS which one was outridfers
Before it was expansive and full of bugs and disconnects, of course it wasn't good at the moment, but not anymore, I have a blast after few decades of gaming)
Imo blame Square Enix as they kind of kicked People Can Fly (the devs) to the curb and yoinked the IP for themselves. I also feel that even with the issues Outriders had on launch and its DLC, it ended in a very good spot with tons of builds to enjoy and that very satisfying gunplay.
Its of my opinion that games like Destiny, Division, Warframe,...and any other F2P/live service looter shooter (like the recent TFD), have tainted the genre and kind of regressed it to just being grinding with little to no soul or substance added.
The popularity of genre started with Borderlands 1 and really no game outside of the BL franchise has really captured the essence of what makes these games so fun, except for Outriders (for me personally). Big name publishers saw how they can make bank from nickle and diming customers in ARPGs and looter shooters and all we get now is never ending live service trash (my opinion), that the masses have grown accustom to instead of getting premium AAA looters that respect the players time and money investment.
I respect Outriders for just being a fun looter shooter, with a full story campaign (pretty interesting lore), decent endgame grinding, addictive gameplay, and very interesting loot/build mechanics. People were upset with PCF because they wanted the game to be a live service and it was never marketed that way. Which is ironic because before Outriders released there was a HUGE backlash in the gaming community about live service games, and the devs were proud at marketing their game as a non-live serivce fully complete looter shooter. Yet people were most critical of this game because it only released with one DLC and most fans wanted MORE lol (can never please everyone).
My only issues with this game and similar ones like Godfall that got mixed ratings is that they are great singleplayer/co-op looters but they designed the systems around an always online server, which imo is always the worst decision a company can make.
Yeah people ask why looter shooters are treated like cash cows now a days and the simple answer is because the masses WANT their games to be that way. The content creators what games that they can grind infinitely and make money off of and the average player has been brainwashed to be "ok" with cash shops of any kind. Yet games like Outriders and Borderlands have no cash shops, have tons of replayablility/content, have amazing look cosmetics that all can be earned in game,...etc.
Like I said before people keep complaining about "live service" games yet for some reason when a looter shooter is not live service, they STILL complain because it is not getting support from the devs for an infinite amount of time lol.
Its like they want it both ways but it does not work like that. Imo the last hope for any AAA looter shooter that is not this F2P garbage would be BL4, but even that series has been kind of going down hill so its not looking bright for the genre in general imo.
It's not played by many people cause the game was ♥♥♥♥ at launch and had laughable issues later on like people's entire character being deleted.
Then they had the balls to charge for DLC. xD
Now you called this mediocre... It's far from it, and i'm sure both of us have spent far more money on far more mediocre games than this. I know i have at least.
I do agree when you put a good concept in the hands of a greedy company that doesn't care about feedback, it's probably doomed to fail. That said, failures of some games have been due to the communities attitude, and nothing more. A sense of self importance and entitlement that a developer should pander to your every whim and should they dare ignore your complaint somehow justifies, griefing other players to have a negative experience, piracy and other generally ♥♥♥♥ human behaviour.
This had promise, it did fail, maybe the company didn't really give a ♥♥♥♥ but at the end of the day, it's still a decent game. There are far worse, and the lack of online multiplayer community doesn't really affect anyone that wants to experience it at the end of the day.
I would kill for a few bug fixes that irritate me, but those are irritations, not game breaking ♥♥♥♥ that a lot of other titles on steam still have to date... mediocre, is something your opinion was, not something the state of the game is.
*edit*
@I Should Be Sleeping
peoples entire characters being deleted was an experience some people had, some of whom didn't even meet the minimum requirements to run the game on their pc's so that's a them issue, and not one of the companies or the game being mediocre as you put it. You sound like another sheep getting upset about something that never affected them, cause you didn't say YOUR character did you? You're just parroting garbage you heard.
You really should BE SLEEPING!
