I've been working for quite a while in the game industry and seeing how people treat video games and how much they demand out of them; it just makes me wanna switch back to IT in Web Development and double my salary instead of trying to create nice experiences through video games for other people.

Quite a while it seems. Programmers don't do web-development, designers do, for ages now. Also, there is not much money to be made in web-development and people demand all your time and attention forever but are only willing to pay meager amounts. I doubt it is much different with games, only that you do not have a single customer for the product, but many. If anything, become a software engineer for either a software company - or a company hardware engineering other stuff than software that need software for their hardware.

eh, really depends.
Got ex-classmates from college that went for web development (either full-stack or back-end) and earn double my annual salary. They don't sweat it too much, unless they want to earn even more (they pick multiple projects at the same time); different clients, but mostly ask for similar stuff. But it is boring at the end of the day. That's why I didn't continue with web dev after 2 internships in college.
I wouldn't go for software engineering; I finished CS studies, but I still dislike Math ^^

The "People Can Fly" studio should have the DIGNITY to update this game to give it a OFFLINE Mode to Outriders!

As long as I can still play who cares if it's dead. If they ever shut down the "servers" and stop you from playing it may go down in history as the greatest joke ever.

Darkspore from EA deserves that Title.
You could buy it still years ago, though you already couldnt play due to EA shutting Servers down.
Single Player only Game...

After more than a year, people still didn't understand the difference between LIVE SERVICE and MULTI COOP. that this game is not a live service.
The game was announced as a single player game with the option to play with people in coop. As soon as they release it, it will be even. The fact that they added some DLC to the game was only because the players wanted it. They never wanted to do any DLC. Why still people compare with LIVE SERVICE TITLE? I have never seen Bordelands series compared to destiny or warframe etc.. This game is probably same game as Bordelands...SIngleplayer game with COOP. Easy. 50-100-200h and END. Nothing more..Same as Bordel.

Well, that "nice" youtuber from the video wrote this in response to the points he concluded with and I analyzed previously in this thread
"Delusional. It can and will die, just like Avengers. Grow up and get Squeenix dong out your brain. Borderlands isn't always online, useless and horrible comparison."

But hey, he's an expert critique that can't make the difference between live service and coop games. What a joke.

This game was never a live service , it was not meant to last , its one and done thing .Comparing it to D2 is hilarious . That game had a 10 year plan on its inception. This game was lucky to get an expansion.

My 2 complains , one prior to the expansion was, end game didn't have build diversity because timers existed which they got rid of and my other complain for the expansion was end game got too repetitive. Everything else was ok to great.

To all players about game not being a "live service".

As soon as a game requires internet connection it is considered as a service... As if they stop their server the game stop. How you call something relying on something else, if not a "service" ???

By the way, as you NEVER own the game, it is ALWAYS a service... By definition... >_>

If your internet provider cut the line, you lose what you pay for.
Same here, they cut the serveur you lose the money you gave them as you cannot play anymore...
Meaning you puchase the game a week before they cut the server you litteraly lose the money as you cannot even take time to play...

Any game with an "inifnite end game" AND requiring a server to play is a service as you depend on someone/something else. End. There is no debate about this definition...

Even if you don't take that into account the game was dead from start as there is nothing modern in it, even DooM (1993) was more modern as it provides.
For examples:
- a real map... The guys here did not even take time to create that, or a minimap, or anything providing player a way to know where they really are...
- coridor level, enven DooM had "open" area/level (based on the context of the game of course) and not just go from entrance point to exit point with boring transition animation that almost all players just skip as they are totally useless/a waste of time.

You can continue like that for hours...
Just a reminder : it is a game released in 2021... THERE IS NO EXCUSE TO ANYTHING !!!

By your logic (leaving aside your poor grammar), I could also say any multiplayer game is a battleroyale, just because they are online and they have players, disregarding ALL the other aspects that make a game a battleroyale, and differentiate the genre from any other.

I'm not a fan of the mandatory online connection either, but i imagine it's used for synchronizing, platform services, anti-cheating systems, anti-toxicity systems, etc.
Is it really necessary? I'm not the judge of that. I'm sure there were plenty of reasons they decided this. Take for example Redfall from Arkane; They're gonna do just the same. And a lot of future games are gonna do the same (I'm not gonna break NDAs here).

Anyway,
Here's some of the main aspects that makes a game live-service:
- "A live service game is a game that sees a constant stream of new content added post launch, and is purposefully designed to keep you playing years after launch. This is unlike traditional single-player games, which can be completed in a set number of hours."
▲ Outriders released a few patch fixes, then after a long while release a DLC and another patch fix after that if I'm not mistaken. So, they don't check this box.

- "Introduce new cosmetics, weapons and multiplayer maps on a seasonal basis – you even sometimes get an entire new game mode".
▲ Just looked it up, apparently they got a "Content Pack" with some dumb cosmetics. I really would love to know who ever bought those :steamsalty:. Other than that, Outriders didn't introduce any new weapons, armors, or content (besides DLC) on a seasonal basis; neither a new game mode. The Content Pack was also not released one a seasonal basis, neither there are multiple "Content Packs".

- "However, a game needs a substantial amount of post-release content to be considered a ‘live service’. The Witcher 3 received two expansion packs and 16 DLC, but is still not considered a ‘live service’ game."
▲ Same goes for Outriders.

- "Live service games are quite often free to play, with players only expected to pay for the optional expansions, microtransactions or seasonal passes."
▲ It does have the DLC and a Content Pack. The Content Pack kinda "ticks" the box here, although it's really the only thing they're trying to sell.

- "But this isn’t always the case, with many examples requiring an upfront fee such as Marvel’s Avengers and Sea of Thieves, while also putting additional content behind a paywall. There are also some games, mostly MMOs like World of Warcraft, that require you to sign up to a subscription in order to play."
▲ Outriders ticks the box here.

"Many gamers have also accused some live service games of providing a pay-to-win advantage to those willing to spend the extra money, making multiplayer matches unfair and unbalanced. To combat this, multiple games have ensured that gamers can only purchase cosmetics that do not impact the gameplay."
▲ Outriders sells nothing that would turn the game into a pay-to-win. Only that Content Pack that probably no one ever bought lol. It's really useless and not necessary. So, Outriders doesn't tick the box here.

At the end of the day, some genres and concepts on games are subjective, or rather they cannot be encapsulated in a single definition.
But arguably, Outriders still stands far from a definition of a live-service game; hence, the youtuber from the video is still a dumbass with over 350k reddit sheeps that don't know nothing about game development, but rather focus on complaining and slander bs on internet.

I really "love" how people would go on to ♥♥♥♥ on a game they never even bought or bothered to play half of it, but that's also how MOST of the metacritics are made. People that watch 100% walkthroughs, or play 3h and then go on to talk ♥♥♥♥ about a game or praise it to the roof.
Personally, I'm still not over Cyberpunk 2077 being released in the worst condition ever by a so renowned AAA company. It took them 1 year to make it playable. I put in 70h on PS5 and finished the game nevertheless.
