Technomancer is fine, just that if you are using certain nerfed mods and skill nodes that was OP long long ago, old build will also be nerfed. Just rework it. As for following those builds you find online, you must be certain to have the correct mods, PAX nodes and skill tree nodes or they don't work.
Only build that I did not change much is my devastator when I came back for the dlc. Technomancer and trickster a bunch of changes, pyromancer a few changes. All was at CT15 before Worldslayer DLC... Now all are at AT25, except devastator at AT30.
Oh keep you gear level close to your tier cap, e.g level 58/60 where 60 is the cap for tier 25. And remember to increase the gear stats to max again after leveling a piece of gear.
Techies are actually *really* strong, but they need some gear behind them, much like Tricksters.
Devastators and Pyros do a little bit better initially, due to their solid base kits - but, for soloing, I'd probably call Techy the strongest endgame character around for full TG clears. Their heals also make them awesome in groups. Initially though, they are *very* squishy and don't do amazing damage at all. That...changes.
I play a turret build, and it's almost hilariously broken once you get a few pieces of gear. To start, get the turret set, a goodly amount of AP boosts both in terms of base gear and mods, and - as a priority - grab the mod that gives you two turrets. Don't bother with any mods for your poison turret, you want everything you can get into your two ice turrets, AP, x to frozen, status power (there are ways to apply this as a damage scalar too) etc..
Pax wise, I like the Overseer tree for added safety, but you can build in a few ways (some people like Desolater a lot).
Basically, ignore weapon damage. You want Rage of Mages (or whatever the gun is called) or anything with raw AP boosts, damage against frozen and damage against toxic'd. Ditto mods.
Once you get the ball rolling, this build is nearly unstoppable - you can basically sit back and let your turrets maul things, whilst also CC'ing the hell out of enemies (even if they aren't really a threat, having them stay in place is a big help). If things get hairy, you can be evasive while still doing full damage, popping off a few shots here and there to maintain buffs.
Pick the middle branch (Tech Shaman), the defensive boosts are bonkers and Overclocked makes soloing and pushing higher tier content *so* much easier. Make sure to dip into allowing freeze to apply vulnerability, and then the improved vulnerability node.
Pax trees wise, you can build in a variety of ways.
The only times this build struggles is against snipers (the initial Docks part of TG is the best illustration), as your turrets will have trouble locking on at times. You'll need to dodge, hide and let your turrets clean everything else up before you close the distance).
Anything else - you'll kill mobs so fast you can straight up spawn camp certain areas. Anything even slightly dangerous gets frozen and melted. Bosses evaporate.
Until you are properly geared...
I also think that a lot of what I am experiencing is playstyle related. Tricksters are more about "run and gun", constantly moving, hardly ever in cover, etc. I was attempting to play my Technomancer in the same way, and it just did not work. I discovered that Technomancers are more about strategic positioning, and thinking a couple of steps ahead of the adversary. It is not a run and gun type of character -- movement is still important, but battlefield mobility is not the core skill I need to develop. Instead, properly positioning my turrets to maximize kill zones and fields of fire, with the right weapons to exploit freezes, etc., is the key I think. It is a different mindset and playstyle from the Trickster...and I am having a lot of fun with it.
I do have the ice set (4 pieces). Borealis or something like that. Need to start looking for the Techmonger Set. That, I think, is going to take time.
That - i went a bit harder way - starting at apo8.
Now - with 3 items of the set and reaching apo 16 its a lot easier.
The survivability is much better than with the ice-set (and tree).
What tree are you using? Pestilance? I have seen builds that use the Shaman and the Demolisher trees. I am using mostly the demolisher tree, with several shaman selections.
